Yes - my ultimate thrill was trading licks with the MAN - but I also had some fun jamming with some great New Orleans musicians while Jason took a break -and danced the tip jar around.(check his 'skateboard move') I follow Clarence Slaughter on sax - who plays with Trombone Shorty among others. Gene Harding (drums) and Andy Curtis (bass) are also New Orleans regulars. - and yes - they called me up, I did not jump onstage (this time anyway ' )
fyi I am starting to post more Jason solos and whole tunes from that night on my youtube chanel - noams210 Check them out, there is some killer shit.
Hey Dog, Sorry I missed you, but I did not know you were coming. I go a lot to Negrl and Frenchman Street, where this scene is repeated probably 5 days a week, or more sometimes. Sunday and Tusday is John Lisi and Jason. It looks like there was Gene Harding on Drums, who runs his own jam on Monday night at Le Maison, also on Frenchman Street. Clarence, on Sax is alway around, and is great fun to play with. He likes harp players, and also Andy on Bass is always great. Also on Mondays is Smoky Greenwell's Blues Jam at BMC, and Wolf's anything goes jam at Negril on Monday.
Its always a great time here in New Orleans, and If you are coming in town, let me know. Or, let Todd green know.
@Harvey - Your town is freakin amazing. Music drips and gushes from every pore.
I did let Todd know I was coming - but got so caught up in a whirlwind of great music ( & food & culture etc.) that I never followed up. I hadn't realized you where there too. I had posted my exploits on facebook but only had my iphone and didn't post here till I got home.
I had been to NOLA twice before, once to Jazz Fest. I had made it uptown to Tipitinas and out to mid city lanes rock n bowl - but for some reason had never made it to Frenchman Street before. It has to be the best three blocks of live music in the country - and that includes Austin Tx. I also made it to the Candle Light Lounge in the Treme on a Wednesday night for a Treme Brass Band home stand. It felt like I was at the headwaters of the musical Nile. I don't need to do Jazzfest again - but I do need to spend a lot more time in your town.

Noam-give us more notice next time-you did good seeing John Lisi and Jason, but there's soooo much more in addition to them that you'd love. Tons of harp-ful happenings! Glad you had a good time. And yes, Frenchmen St. is where it's at. With maybe one exception (if Bryan Lee is playing), Bourbon's not the place to look for good music. More out-of-town music lovers/musicians need to know that when they visit. Don't tell Harvey I said so, but he's easily one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Hopefully we'll both catch up with you next time. ---------- Todd
