I'm young, and don't have much money for amps, mics, etc.
I'm thinking about getting a Pignose 7-100 with digital delay and a mic. Any recommendations?
I want it to sound like the reverb and delay that Adam Gussow gets on his small amps. Do you think the digital delay will sound good on this one? ( I really like the sound Adam Gussow gets )
If i remember correcty Adam uses the boss dd-3. I recommend you purchase his amping the harp video. Ive got the video but haven't watched the video all the way through. I think (either in the video or somewhere on this forum) he even tell you what settings he's using on the pedal itself.
"Sound good" is a very personal thing. There's a good video on you tube with (I forget his name) playing a bottle-o-blues through a pignose 7-100 and sounded pretty bad ass to me. Add some delay and I'd imagine it would. There are way better qualified people in here to answer this question.
When you first go amplified, most people think they want a harder edged, more heavily distorted sound(I know I did). What you will probably settle in on is just some slight overdrive, which really juices up the tone. I think if I was on a really limited budget, I'd buy a Bottle of Blues mic and a Peavey Vypyr 15 amp. The amp has built-in effects, including delay, and the mic is well accepted as a good harp mic. With some fiddling, I'm sure that combination could make a nice sound for your harp.
@Jackster, I have a PigNose like your talking about. Sweet little amp for what you pay for them. The break up is built in the amp. I don't see a need to buy a mic that cost more than the amp. I played my AUDIX FireBall V thru it and it sounds great. I also bought a Beringer delay pedal and have used it on and off for the past 3 years with no issues and a good clean delay for $30 new. I used to go to open mic sessions and still do some times. The Pignose/ Beringer combo worked great and the fact they run on batteries means hardly no set up time. Another plus is the line out on the back of the amp. Hook it up to the PA with one 1/4 cord and you can be as loud as the band. Don't waste your money on the AC adapter, it generates a lot of humm and makes the unit unusable in my opinion. Steve Harvell has some videos on YouTube and this fourm where he's playing thru a Pignose. Have fun! Mike
I have the tweed version of the 7-100 Pignose. I always use it in tandem with the Boss-DD3 delay or a chorus pedal. Without either of those effects the amp's sound is too harsh, but of course that's my subjective opinion. I have not noticed any hum issues with the AC adapter.
For the price of a Pignose and a Boss delay pedal you could get a Fender Vibro Champ XD (tube) amp which has a much wider variety of tones and effects. It is also a wonderful little guitar amp. ----------
Steve Harvell posts stuff here now and then--he uses a Pignose and a Shaker mic. Here's a clip to see how you like the sound.
I have a Pignose Hog 30 that I used for years--right now it's broke--but I really liked the sound of my Mexican Green Bullet with a volume pot added through it. I've been a big fan of Pignose amps since about the 80's or so. . .

You might want to try a VOX mini-3 modeling amp.. .I have the VOX DA5, and its a great little amp, but I believe its been discontiuned, although there still may be a supply of them available at stores and ebay.
Here's a link to the VOX mini-3:

It looks similart to the DA5... not sure about the wattage settings, but the DA5 had .5, 1.5, and 5 watts... the mini-3 specs says "up to 3watts RMS", so it must have some variable power setting.
Great effects... I like the delay and reverb, plus the AUX is great for an MP3 player for jam tracks.
I like the DA5 much better than the pignose 7-100 and Hog-20.
There are some YouTube vids on the DA5... not sure about the mini-3.
I recommend trying to find one locally and give it a try.
