Jinx it can be any harp of theirs. Even a cheap one.

I just signed up but maybe I was a little too quick. I signed up without thinking about my schedule first and now am wondering how to squeeze this in before my free lessons are up in 3 weeks.

It is a great promotion. My suggestion is to spend some time watching the interviews that David Barrett conducts with some of the great players. When you finish those, you can then watch the interview they did with me.

Its a great site for learning Chicago style Tounge blocking blues.

If your not a TBer, you will be after Daves lessons.

Check out the Sonny Boy Williamson Lesson:o)

My initial intent was focusing on the TB lessons. I was surprised there were so few.Maybe it is just more simple than I always thought. I do like the TB tone.

I just got David Barrett’s book with CD last week. I'm wondering how different these lessons are. The book is loaded. Anyway, I have off today and will spend the day going through the Free web lessons. Normally my work days go from 7:30 am to 10:30 PM. I drive 85 miles to work so it's a long day with not much time for actual practice other than the times I dip into the car at work. I do get a lot ("a lot") of internet time at work though...so reading get's done.

I am approaching the end of my free 3 week trial and I have yet to discover why it costs so much. $17 a month?

The site gives some big number about how many videos are on the sight. Evidently they are counting video interviews of musicians and such because there are nowhere near the amount of lessons as the number of videos they claim to have on the website. Maybe there are sections I am unaware of. I do know the links for the beginner, intermediate and experienced level lead to pages that are a little confusing...

One aspect of the site is that you can upload audio recordings of yourself and David will give you feedback. His monthly pricing is cheaper than ArtistWorks, and it's month-by-month instead of quarter-by-quarter.

I used David's site for the trial period. I found it to be quite good.

Personally, i found the artist interviews quite interesting. Unless, you know those guys personally, it's unlikely that you'll ever get that sort of information from them. Even if you do know them, it's unlikely that you'll get them to sit down, open up and talk about them harmonica and their formative years.

His instructional material is quite good, too. How many instructors will dissect and entire song or a players style and slowly run it back to the student? Not many. Need proof listen to Madcat Ruth's lessons from Big Walter.

I wish I had materials like David's when I was starting to play. I would have made things a lot easier. He does damn near everything short of standing over a person and forcing them to practice.

I see a lot of David's students. Some them are good players. Some are very good. The better players are the players who practice. The more they practice, the better they tend to be.

His program works. You've got to put the effort forth and be receptive to his teachings.

One of his best students is a guy named Aki Kumar. I met him six or seven years ago. During that time period, he has become an excellent player. He practices his ass off. He is in a fantastic band that went to the IBC last year. To get there, they beat out some fantastic bands. He's living proof that David's techniques work if you put in the effort.

Greg Heumann is another solid player. He's one of David's students. Since, I've met him, he's developed skills and tone that most players envy. The list could on and on.

David Barrett's techniques work for a lot of people. $17 wouldnt get you 15 minutes of instruction with him or a host of other top players.

I joined with the 3wk free offer a week ago. I'm very impressed. Like Joe L says, the interviews are a wealth of information.

I've been a member of Howard's site for a year and have been disappointed recently with the lack of new lessons. I'm curious as to how often Barrett's site is updated.

Since Artist works announced the price hike for HLHS I'm seriously considering switching. $16 a month is IMHO phenomenal value considering what's on Bluesharmonica.com

@MrVLUN:

Current (i.e, pre August 5th) HLHS students continue to pay the old rate until August 2012.

Yeah I know, but I'm not sure I think the current fee for HLHS is even justified if we only get 1 new lesson a month. It was great at first, when every lesson was new, but not so much now.

I'm not knocking his lessons on the site. They are quite good. I have been at this for two years and never understood positions and such fully but his way of explaining such things made me understand them. I am also tongue blocking now as opposed to lip pursing or u blocking although I still revert now and then on habit.
