I meant to get this started a little sooner, but Santa brought me kidney stones. No worries. For a long time our famous how-to page has been hosted off site. We've finally integrated it onto the site. For the moment it's pretty much like the old one, but different, because we now can update it more quickly. I want to add more content, useful information for navigating the forums. That can mean links to the best threads of all times, or tricks for posting cool posts that people will read.
So, with that in mind, check it out and trouble shoot it. I know the link to Harp Friends is broken, and there is a header at the top left that I can't seem to size. Report any other bugs (or solutions to those ones!) Suggest added information. (Maybe we could integrate the forum search and archives on the page, maybe you know a trick or two for posting HTML that doesn't automatically turn into an executed action- actually, I've got a trick for that. I'll add that soon.) So, start brainstorming.
Thanks, Nate
PS- Thanks GH, for putting the How-To together in the first place and hosting it for so long. :)
To do list- Permalink for For Current for Sale page. Permalink for this thread.

Much better, thanks... and for once the doctor told me to change my eating habits in a way I can get down with... more lemonade! I love lemonade!

I feel ya on your visit from Uncle Stoney. I'm kinda thankful he hit me before the Christmas season. I don't think I coulda handled that on top of all the other frazzling things that come with Christmas. ----------

Is there a way to search the forum?

Rax, there are a couple ways to search the forum. :)
On the left hand side, near the bottom there is a button for forum search. You can also use Google to search the forum by typing @modernbluesharmonica.com after your search terms.
The forum archive has some threads sorted by content, and the 'Thread Organizer' link in my signature has some more stuff sorted by category (and you can use it to link threads you find particularly useful). Bluemoose also has webbrain project that catalogs most of Jason Ricci's videos. If you are looking for a specific one of Adam's videos this link is useful:

Of course you can always just click through old threads, but that can take a really long time. :) If you don't find it with a search, or the threads you find are out of date, feel free to just ask. There are a lot of people who can either provide you with the information off the top of their head or direct you to one of their favorite threads for an answer.

Nacoran - Thanks for all those pointers! I've never seen a forum like this. At first I thought it was a hassle, but I like it. Thanks for the advice and links - I will put them to good use!
Cheers,
Rax

My only forum suggestion would be a link back to the forum topics at the bottom of the page.

Greg, when you are in the edit mode, click on your pin. It will pull up and you'll see a balloon where you can add text. You will see a pin in the right corner of that balloon. If you click that pin you will see a selection of optional images to use. It's possible to make custom pins beyond that selection, but they don't tend to scale well when people zoom in and out.
The only symbol that I've designated to mean something in particular is the light blue flag, which marks, as best as I've been able to narrow down, the locations of harmonica factories, or former harmonica factories.
edit: Rax, I'm glad I could help.
PaulBunyan, unfortunately the forum software doesn't let us edit the forum page, aside from setting up a couple basic parameters like how many posts are on the page. We can add a footer, but then it's site wide. It would be nice to have that link, and a page link for threads that go over 1 page at the bottom, but I haven't seen any sign that it's possible with the software.

@PaulBunyan - you could always add the link to your signature, I agree that it'd be handy and this would be a relatively simple work-around if enough people adopted the habit (or at least would help on threads that you are active in - & perhaps more likely to be viewing more frequently ...). Not perfect thought. I've just added a bookmark which could always be enhanced via safari-specific shortcut key (depending on how much you use this particular forum...)

I have a MBH webbrain and a Ricci webbrain. MBH has most of Adam's vid crossref'd by key, song and by over 80 topics. Video links are grouped by the over 20 categories he files them under. There are links to the forum welcome page, FAQ, for sale pages and links to epic forum topics (which I need to update). Also there is a 'Standard Blues Songs' index to songs from the forums attempts at a list plus the Wikepedia list of blues standards. Each song has several links to youtube samples of the classic performers plus a few others. Very informative. Similar treatment of Ricci's vids in my FerretCat brain (but with hair colour index!) ----------
