I saw Robin Williams playing harp on Mork and Mindy yesterday. Mrs. Elkriverharmonicas says "Go ahead, say what you always say. (poorly played harmonicas are bitter to my ears and then I bitch about "why can't they hire Jason or somebody to play it right? " But I wasn't thinking that at all for once- Mork had one of the old handmade Old Standbys... I really miss those.
My Dad and Grandad always had the old standby. When I was 10 my Dad gave me one in Bb and that's what I played. I took it with me to Vietnam and I either lost it or it was stolen. I liked the old standby better than the marine band. I'd sure like to have a few German made old standbys. ---------- Wisdom does not always come with old age. Sometimes old age arrives alone.
I was trying to find a clip on Youtube, couldn't find that. But I did find where Mork, transformed into an old man, "Bill C. Hohner, but my friends just call me "Marine Band"" to woo this old lady who owns a music store, goes into the music store and asks for "an Ethiopian Lip Whistle... a harmonica." They go over to a Hohner display and she asks him what key harp he wants, he says "Key of Q." He winds up with a C Marine Band 365 for $5.29. He walks into the music store around 5:30.
I wonder if he'd have stuck with harp, he coulda learned talking-harp technique and made his harmonica say "Nannu-nannu!" It prolly woulda wound up sounding similar to a Cylon from BSG, but still... ---------- Hawkeye Kane

Somewhere along the line I accidentally started playing a little bit of the Mork & Mindy theme song. I can play the part that I can remember from the show. I should sit down and give the whole thing a listen to pick off the rest of it.
I can also play The Brady Bunch theme, Mash, a little bit of the Hogan's Heroes theme, a bit of Gilligan's Island and a bit of the Masterpiece Theater theme. I watched way too much TV as a kid. :) ---------- Nate Facebook Thread Organizer (A list of all sorts of useful threads)
