harmonica player/ harp mic builder Fritz Hasenpusch died
yesterday while mountain climbing on Oahu in Hawaii.

i just received a call from a mutual friend an hour ago.

it may have been a heart attack but we aren't sure.

Fritz used to sit in with my band in Honolulu in the '80s before he moved to CA. we traded gear a bit. he made beautiful microphones.
some people may be framiliar with him through the Harmonica Sessions magazine.

He made me a mic. It was good and I used it on one of my favorite CDs. He was a fun guy and had a great sense of humor. RIP

I'm very sorry to hear this. We never met but I have appreciated his contribution to the harmonica community. He seemed to be a great bloke. I enjoyed his sense of humour and learned quite a bit from him. Vale Fritz.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I knew Fritz from the many activities that center around David Barrett in this part of the world - his Harmonica Masterclass, where we were both vendors and seminar givers early on, and later as colleagues at HarmonicaSessions.com and most recently at Bluesharmonica.com.

Fritz was a really nice guy, knowledgeable, creative, and enthusiastic. My sympathies to his family and close friends and associates.

So sorry to hear this. Yesterday my wife just bought a 1930's art deco style cabinet and placed the 10 DA mic & stand that Fritz converted for me on top of it because it too looks so beautifully art deco -ish (Sounds great as well). Now I hear this sad news. Such a funny guy and was very pleasent to speak with. Prayers of comfort for his family and friends. God's speed to ya Fritz.

Wow - this is a real shock. I have also known Fritz for many years. I bought my first custom mic from him and he was helpful when I developed my first product. Although we were competitors by definition, we had great fun when we saw each other, such as in this picture from SPAH '09:

Fritz was truly full of life - I will miss him. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I only had some minor dealings with him, but he seemed a great guy, full of energy and humour (see his Little Walter video). Very sad news.

Sad & shocking news :-( I never had any direct dealings with Fritz but his enthusiasm & humour were always very evident. He will be remembered well.

This getting old sucks! Fritz was my mic go to guy since he was just down the road. Fritz built at least 6 mics for me. He was a great guy, made great mics and will be sorely missed. My heart goes out to his family.

i think i still have an email from him where he cheerfully gave me some information, although we'd never met and likely never would.
from all i gather, he was a very good guy.

I had met him a few times, and he had repaired a mic for me. It's always a bit of a shock to hear of someone you know dying. All the best to Fritz (wherever that mic building spirit is)and to his family...

RIP, Fritz. He'd done a little work for me over the years, and we'd traded a lot of e-mails. We had plans to meet up for a beer here in Prague but it never happened because of one thing of another. I regret never getting to spend any time with him in person. His contributions to the harmonica world were very large indeed. :-(

as Fritz was a Honoluluan, and so am i, you wind up meeting everybody sooner or later. he had a band in Honolulu called Shnazz back in the '80s. even then he was going to pawnshops and finding green bullets,etc..
he loved mics, ribbon, CM, you name it.

and yes, it was a heart attack.
he was climbing this thing we call the Stairway to Heaven. it's an incredibly long stairway up the beautiful Koolau range that i believe the military built for some reason or other.
i like the idea that he spent his last moments high up the mountains in lush greenery.

he was a wonderful human being.
