I got a newsletter from Seydel this morning. One thing in it that jumped out at me was this:
The caption:
"New: The SEYDEL SESSION STEEL Special Winter Edition
Winters in Klingenthal are strong and usually long. This might be one reason that for centuries the people in this region find the time to consistently create superior musical instruments. Like the new SEYDEL SESSION STEEL Special Winter Edition!
In addition to its superior technical reliability and perfect playability, it has a new visual appearance: we call it “sparkling”. The new comb is made of ABS plastic and combines with the approved Seydel Stainless Steel reeds to provide a great sound - which, by the way, should last much longer than this offer, since the Special Winter Edition will only be available as long as we have winter here."
Hey all you folks who harped about the "ugly" orange comb....looks like you finally had a Christmas wish come true! ;-)

I have an A SS with 1847 covers. I put an order in for one of these new combs. You can get black combs for the SS, which I've used before too.
Regardless of color, I sand/polish them to look like polished Corian. This takes the screen printing off, which I also like to do. ---------- Custom Harmonicas

@Mike
Yeah...I just took a couple of blown out Blues Sessions and put SS reedplates in them. Unfortunately for me...they didn't last very long. Still slightly miffed, but then again, probably only have my poor breath technique to blame for it. Wish that Hohner would get on board and start making steel reeds, for God sake! ----------

Sparkling! Do any customizers make sparkling combs? As a kid I may have accidentally played a few games of Dungeons & Dragons and they had sparkly, sparkly clear, swirly, swirly clear and glow in the dark dice that all would probably translate well into comb colors.

I know Hetrick has been selling them with black combs standard, but there's been the option for orange combs and now grey as well, along with the various options for coverplates, brass, conical steel, frosted, etc. I've also been building some with the grey combs for Hetrick. Seydel's pictures don't really do them justice. They are grey, but are sprinkly-looking, like falling snow - like when you go outside at night and turn on a very bright porch light.

I wanted to like my sessions and did not care about the orange comb at all. I have a Low C and a Low F# that are not very responsive (airy) relative to my other low harps: Golden Melodys and Special 20's (they did make low GM's at one time) which are gapped in a play-ably responsive way....d ---------- Facebook

Nate, Matt Smart has some sparkling Corian combs and the Evanwood is sparkly. Randy Sandoval might have some sparklies, too, and Randy also does great work. It's really hard to tell in pics that a comb is sparkly. I've got an Evanwood from Matt that I played for a while, then had it outside one day and noticed it looked like it had gold dust in the material. ---------- David

I just had a look at these on Seydel's website. It addition to the color change, they also appear to have slightly different hole geometry.
Has anyone tried the Winter Editions?
