Nice Jam in Philly last night, I was humbled by some of the great harp players who showed up. One guy brought a well worn Kendrick 1X8 amp, looked like a Champ. He mic'd it through the PA, best sounding amp I've ever heard! I played a few songs through it, liked it better than my old Sonny Jr! I checked out the Kendrick site this morning and his was probably the Champ copy, a practice amp. I noticed they have 3 harp amps listed too, never heard of em. Anybody here have a Kendrick harp amp? Not cheap, but anything built by Gerald Weber has to be good, he wrote the book, right? Anyone know who makes his Kendrick speakers?

I have a "sort of" Kendrick Texas Crude harp amp. I sent them my RI Bassman and had them gut it and put their Texas Crude circuit. So it's in my Bassman cabinet with the 4x10" speakers (the normal Texas Crude has one ten or twelve in it, I think).
The amp sounds great when the volume is cranked, except I never play that loud though, most of the bands I play with are low-volume small gig blues bands. I've been thinking of installing the Kendrick "Decrescendo" power attentuator to let me crank the amp and have the volume be at a reasonable level.

I'm a big fan of Kendrick harp amps. I've played a couple different examples of his Texas Crude amp (really good tone) and the little 5-watter, which sounded great but I thought was no better than the Harpgear HG2.
Hohnerjones, I host a jam in Denver and I am often humbled by the harp players who come in!

Most likely it was the Kendrick 118, their version of a 5F1 champ with beefed up transformers (to handle big power tube subs) and a line out, better filtering, added grid stoppers & screen grid resistor (normal practice for repros of vintage amps) otherwise pretty faithful to the 5F1 circuit. It's available in kit form.
No experience with the Vagabond (the single ended champ style harp amp).
The Kendrick bassman (2410) is one hell of an amp.
You can only buy Kendrick speakers from Kendrick ---------- www.myspace.com/markburness

I first heard a Kendrick harp amp at a seminar given by Paul Orta. I think Orta might have been involved in the design of the amp. Later found a deal on the 1X12 Texas Crude harp amp. It was built like a tank, plenty loud, but for me, a little difficult to dial in. Once dialed though, pretty sweet amp. I wish I hadn't let a friend talk me out of it. I later bought one of those Kendrick 118 amps, still have it, play it a lot! Hard to fault, it's one of those that you add a little delay and nothing else, sounds terrific. That is probably what your friend has, Bob. They are pretty expensive, 1000.00 + for any Kendrick, but I think they are worth it. Weber designs all of his amps so that a simple tube swap can change the tone, very useful.
