I am working on making a song, whit harp, bass, and a simple drum. But, I cant make a good drum pattern on this drum machine. I found this tip, but does not sound good at all to me:
"When I need a basic, metronome like drumbeat... bass drum on beats 1 and 3, snare on 2 and 4, hi-hat on 1,2,3,4, maybe crash on 1 so you know when the new measure starts, any tempo you like. It is a corny and overused pattern, but some punk drummers have done this for decades, so - it kinda works" http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f22/hydrogen-drum-machine-help-408632/
I'm not a drummer so anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.
There are several beats that are used in blues. Shuffle, Rhumba, Two beat. The beat described above is not any of these. The important missing beats are the off beats.
As far as i know a shuffle beat accents the 2 and 4 beats of the bar. You'll also need to pay attention to the off beats. 1>a>2>a>3>a>4>a.
So a basic shuffle might have Kick drum on beats 1 and 3, snare on 2 and 4 and high-hat on the on and off beats "#", "a". – This is 4/4 time signature, I think.
Or you might want to look at a triplet based rhythm: 1>e>a> 2>e>a 3>e>a >4>e>a
Again Knick on 1 and 3, share on 2 and 4. High-hat on all the beats "#" "e" and "a" - This would need to be on a 12/8 time signature as the beats should be 8th notes.
I hope this is right and I hope this helps. :)
