I completely forgot about this! Guitar Legends 1992 in Barcelona! Watch from 16:15.

Pleased to see that immediately after his solo he puts the harp to better use as a guitar slide.

Satch is simply awesome on the guitar! I have been a fan since the 1990s or late 1980s.

I believe that song is called Big Bad Moon. He plays harmonica on a lot of other songs on that album and others.

I like that he pretends to play slide guitar with his harp, but if you look in the background you can see there is a glass slide glued to his harp.

Ha! I've personally abused The Esteemed Mr Satriani over that flagrant and disrespectful abuse of the instrument.

Right around 1999 and 2000, my business partners and I kept a boat in a marina in the San Francisco Bay to use as an apartment when we were working in the area.

It was in a "live-aboard" section of the marina, and many of the neighboring slips had permanent residents. One of these guys was on a boat two slips over from ours. He was (and still is) Joe's guitar tech. Not far away from the marina he maintains a climate and humidity controlled workshop and storage facility where he keeps the dozens of Satchmo guitars all up and running. The place is also a nice little practice studio and hangout cave. Interestingly, the facility is one of the myriad and vast commercial property holdings owned by those shrewd Bay Area real-estate investment moguls from Metallica.

He came up to me one evening when I was sitting on our back deck and blowing some harp.

Anyway, we had some great barbecues on the dock with this guy when he wasn't on the road with Satriani. Several times, Joe would come down from the studio and kick it. Very nice guy. And, lest you think ill of his harp abuse, he can carry some pretty decent chops on the harp his own bad self.

That was a very cool section of the marina. I met several other music peeps whose names if dropped in one sentence are a pretty healthy list. But it wasn't like that. It's not like I was in a position to porch jam with heavyweights. More like some passing a joint and cold beers outside in and amongst a lot of boats. But, an honor nonetheless.
