Hi first time poster here.I want a portable amp to practice with and hopfully some day use on the street corner. My cousin has the Pignose 7-100 and I realy like the tone. Has anyone used the pig nose 30 or 20 and if so how is the tone compared with the smaller 7-100 ? I also would like to be able to plug in a stompbox to it . Thanks

A friend of mine (harp player) has the Pig 20, much better for harp than the 7-100. Louder, and not as overly distorted like the small one. If you like the 7-100, you'll like the 20 even more.
For busking it would work great, I believe it runs on batteries as well as 120V
I don't know about using pedals with it.

for pedals, you will need the 20 or 30. i've used a 30/60 and it's a good transistor amp. Very few transistor amps are any good for harp in my opinion.

i've used the 7-100 countless times w/out effects. effects ruin it. Also, i used a crystal JT-30. Hotter elements like CMs and CRs tend to feedback and distort too much. The crystal pared with the Pig 7-100 is a perfect match.

Busking. better go with the 20 or 30. if there is traffic or lots of noise the 7-100 will be buried.

I have a 7-100. A lot of guys I've heard use this turned up way to much and it just distorts ridiculously IMHO. It works best for me at around 3 o'clock. With LW delay it sounds better. Worst thing is that once it gets into that distortion, that's all it does, very one dimensional...play soft or hard makes no difference in whether its clean or distorted after a certain point, and on my amp that point is pretty early on the dial. I've heard Kingley play one with delay and his sounded alright. I found delay and volume kept just below that distortion threshold allowed me to get a little more depth (for want of a better term) in the sound.
I dunno those bigger models...

i had a hog 20 it will fool you awhile. but it aint no tube amp. the hog also only has one input jack so you will need two amps one for harp one for stomp. i heard the battery vox is better from what i heard.

The 7-100 sounds ok with a delay at low volumes. To play out though you'd need the bigger pignose amps. Mark is right the crystal elements sound better with the 7-100. Here's the video that Superbee is referring too. I'm using an Astatic T3 with crystal element into a Belcat delay then into a Pignose 7-100.

Sounds pretty cool Kingley! Which model Belcat?
I know they have several delay pedals, and some cool mini amps.

A guy brought a Pignose Hog 30 into the jam. I hated the sound, and he spent the entire set with his back to the audience adjusting the settings. I've heard the guy before with other amps and he is not a bad player, but the Hog 30 did not sound good.

I got sucked in by a salesman about 16 years ago and bought a Pignose G40V, touted by this guy as a GREAT HARP AMP. He made his money that day. It was a feedback beast with no tone. I sold it at a loss. The 7-100 was an ok amp and could be mi9ced off as well. I used mine with a green bullet so the volume range was pretty limited but it did have a pretty good sound. In fact I once had to gig with that rig when the guitarist's amp failed and we plugged him into my Princeton. I would not recommend using the 7-100 too much either.
Roland makes a few different street friendly sjmall amps you may want to look at.

Very Nice Kingley! You hit the sweet spot on that 7-100! All amps have a sweet spot. On some there is a large sweet spot and others you have no room. (Bee found his at 3)
i forgot that sometimes i used an Ibanez CD10 Analog Delay and it was fine. i totally agree w/ Bee that too many players play the 7-100 too hot and it's a distorted mess.

Hmm, on further refection there are other battery powered amps that work much better tonally than anything Pignose puts out save the 7-100. i have a fondness for it. Oh, always use batterys w/ the 7-100. The AC wall plug adapter causes 60 cycle hum under most conditions.

That's the one, Paul! Yeah My little pig started to crackle. I thought it was the speaker so I replaced it but it still crackles. I think it may have a bad capacitor.
These days I use an old Mouse for outdoor applications and that works just fine. other people use those Rowland Micra cubes and they seem pretty good too. The mouse is considerably better than the pig i think. something about that 8 inch speaker
