Hello,

I'm heading over to Tampa from the UK for a flying visit next week.

As a relative newbie to the harmonica scene, I'm always looking to be inspired and taught a few tricks by expert harpists and was wondering whether anyone knew of any aces willing to spend a couple of hours with a Limey next week in the Tampa area, or at least driving distance from here.

Any thoughts? Thanks,

Christian

Christian:
I don't know if I would describe myself as an "Ace", but I do live in Clearwater which is just across the bay from Tampa. There is a pretty lively blues scene in Tampa although with my busy schedule I don't get out to the clubs much. I'm a fairly hospitable guy so if you will message me privately we can discuss what days you'll be in town. I can point you in the direction of some good music and I can make some time in my schedule to have a cold beer with you.
Tom

Christian,
look for gigs by the Delta Swamp Rats, with Tony Smith playing harp; he's a fine player.

No idea of the Tampa part of Florida. In the state of Florida though you have Brian Purdy (owner of HarpGear amp company), RJ Harman, J Stephen Edwards, Randy Singer, T.C. Carr and many more. Not certain but I think Tom Fiacco (tmf714) lives down that way too. I'm pretty sure that if you emailed Brian or Randy though they could give you some info on who's playing where and when in that area or some jams to attend.

Tony Smith is playing HOB in Orlando on the 27th with The Delta Swamp Rats--if I can think of anyone in that area ,I will be sure to let you know-I live on the East coast-Tony lives in Sarasota-the West coast.

Just checked the calendar-Doug Deming and Dennis Gruenling are playing the 26th and 27th is Sarasota-he is known to give lessons while here in Florida-let me know if you would like to hook up with him.

tmf,
I'm shocked...the O-ville House of Blues actually has a blues act??? All kidding aside, I'm gonna try hard to make that show.

And so christianb hooked up last night in St. Petersburg. He and his wife are both lovely people (his father-in-law is a great guy too). I sent Christian a link to a website that listed all the local blues performances going on while he was in town. He picked a guy he wanted to go see and we made a date.

For the record, we went to see a local guy named TC Carr. it was small crowd at an outdoor plaza in downtown St. Pete. He's good. Here's an example of his playing.

Christian is a beginner who wants to learn (just started playing in May). Perhaps some of you UK guys can reach out to him and get him on the right track.

I think he picked the best that Tampa/St.Pete/Clw. has to offer on harp. As well as one of the top guitar players in the area. My humble opinion.

Ray: That's good to know. I assume you have heard TC. Do you live in the Tampa Bay area?
