I just acquired a Fender Blues Jr and was looking at experimenting with different tubes. I see a bunch of stuff online about try this tube in the v1 and this in the v3. My question is, which is the v1 tube and so on? I didn't get any papers or schematics with the amp. Thanks!

Question for you....which Blues Junior is it? There've been a few different versions? Does the back tag say Blues Junior III or just Blues Junior?

From right to left is how the tube lineup is read-V1 extreme right-V4 and 5 are the output tubes-EL84-V1 is the pre amp which has the biggest effect on tone, and V3 is the phase inverter-it affects the tone, but not as much as the pre amp tube in slot V1.

Howdy DF,
I've got a 2007 FBJr. For what it's worth I've got it set up like this: Power tubes Mullard EL84; preamp #1 12ay7, preamp #2 12ay7 and preamp #3 12dw7. #3 seems and the power tubes seem to have made the most difference. I've played around with 12au7 in the #1 or #2 slots. Not sure about the difference in performance there. #1 is the preamp closest to your input, then 2 and 3.

That's my 2 cents... literally 2 cents worth.. :o.

I have tried a few times to modify a BJr for harp and I just never could get the tone I like. Others have had some success at it.

Georgia Blues, do you have a video of yours? I'd like to hear it.

Yeah, we'll see how it does. I figure any free (working) amp is a good amp.

Dogface, free is good. Free amps are more fun.
