Hi Everyone,
I have a question regarding Boss delay pedals. I posted up a couple of weeks ago regarding Carlos Del Junco's tone and Adam very kindly posted a reply explaining that a large factor in his tone is his delay. Adam suggested that a Boss DD3 delay was used by both him and Carlos.
Looking on Flea Bay, I've searched for "boss delay" and found there are a few variations. Obviously, the analogue models are a different animal, but there are DD2, DD5, DD6, DD7, and so on. All are around the same prices.
My question is whether I should stick with the DD3 due to this model having some special mojo, or to avoid a certain model due to poor design or something.
I know this is a little vague, but I hope someone can shed some light on this.
Cheers
Steve

I don't think the Boss delays are the way to go for Carlos's sound. He may have made-do with with Adam's Boss pedal, but he doesn't normally use one.

I've got a DD6 and enjoy it. Of course the higher number models have more modes than the lower- so more options to test and play with. The DD3 has a 200ms mode. The DD6 is the only one in the line (from what I can tell) that does not. It has a 300ms in place of the 200ms. I have heard some folks say that 200ms is just right and anything other than that is no good. I think anything DD5 and over has tap tempo so you can set your delay to the beat. Another difference would be input and output jacks. I'm not a mic/cable guru so I'll say that all I know is that my DD6 has more holes than a DD3.
If you're JUST looking for delay, I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. If you would like to have more options to tweek and play with, then go for a higher number model. I got my DD6 used at Guitar Center for $75.00. Either way you go you won't be out a whole lot.

Apparently Carlos Del Junco uses a Lone Wolf V2 Harp Delay these days. Adam Gussow uses a Boss DD3 and has done for a long time.

Try the joyos. I use the Analog delay and it sound great. I use it in the same way than carlos, just a litle of delay to fatten the tone, not to create an "ambient" sound. No feedback problem so far. Is a clon of de Carbon Copy.
You could try the Caline analog delay, is diferent, is digital whit a analog signal path. Is a clon of the Mad profesor Deep Blue Delay.

Thanks Rogonzab.
I've just ordered a Joyo. I liked the idea of the MXR carbon copy, but didn't want to spend the money. For this price, if it doesn't work, I've only lost £25.00

For what its worth I use a DigiTech delay every gig all the time, it is very good and gives loadsa options. However they require a lot of technique to get the sound right

I use a lone wolf delay pedal which I find to be an excellent pedal. I think Billy Branch uses a Boss delay just like Adam's. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. If anyone has had and used both the DD3 and the lone wolf delay pedal, please speak up.

I've used the Lone Wolf V2 Harp Delay and the Boss DD3. along with lots of other delay pedals both analog and digital. If I were choosing between those two, personally I'd go for the Lone Wolf pedal. As to my ear it sounds darker and more natural than the DD3. However it's all subjective of course. These days when I use delay (which isn't very often) I use either a cheap Chinese Avivi Time Traveller digital delay or a Tokai TDL-1. Both give me a decent delay sound and do the job I need them to do. I use the Avivi more than the Tokai, which surprises me as I generally find analog delays sound better for harp than digital. I tend to use delay in a similar to the way Carlos Del Junco does. I don't care for the heavy delay sound that Adam uses myself. It works well for him, but for my style of playing it just doesn't fit. The best delay I've ever used hands down was the Boss DM-2. I still regret selling that pedal.
