My Dark combs are GREEN! I'm sure whomever said that my my combs contain formaldehyde made an honest mistake. They DO NOT contain formaldehyde.
Dark combs are made from a sustainable composite made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper and PetroFree™ non-petroleum based phenolic resins. It is VOC-free, including formaldehyde, and emits no radon gases, the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. It has been certified ‘food safe’ by NSF, the public health and safety company. It is the greenest composite material available.
I learned how to make combs from friends with over 100 cumulative years of machinist experience!
I flatten each comb by hand and I examine every part of the surface to make sure it's perfectly flat. I use a tool for that. My tool is a working copy of a straight edge precise to .000025" per 6" (25 millionths of an inch).
The original straight edge stays in a drawer! If I were to use it on every comb I make, it would eventually wear out. The measuring edge of my comb tool is made flat to the same tolerance.
I try to keep the cost reasonable - a comb shouldn't cost more than a brand new harp! The biggest part of the cost of these combs is the work involved in making them flat.
They are durable and will last you a lifetime.
Order them one at a time or buy them by the dozen.
Lol. Thanks for the catch Timeistight. :) I was surprised I hadn't seen it, so I figured I'd start it, but I guess I was too late. Anyway, it's added to the forum FAQ page.
I have a few Manji's I worked on that are used but pretty hot and decorated by a Moon Cat, I don't need them anymore because I got some AMAZING new Spiers harps!!! It has grooves cut to locate the Special 20 cover Plates and plays great. It overblows great, and since Blue Moon came out with their new Special 20 combs, I will probably never make another one. It is too much work.

Hey Folks, Got the rest of the corian combs listed on the site a little bit ago. I've added the 1847, SP20, and MS combs that I had in the works. In Stock Combs As with the other models that I posted on the old page each are $20, free shipping in the continental US on orders of 3 or more.
The following New Special 20 HarveyHarps are in the last stages of being completed. Keys are G, A, Bd, C and D. I can put any key on any comb, the solid white and blue are corian, and the multi colored ones are Fancy Acrylic. The price is $175 which includes postage.
During a recent discussion of my Blue Moon Special 20 combs a couple of guys asked about making similar combs for the Suzuki HarpMaster. I’ve always thought the HarpMaster is a great harp. It is most certainly Suzuki’s answer to the Special 20. And so I did. Pictured below are some aluminum prototypes. They are just polished at the moment and have not been anodized yet. I am posting these pictures and hopefully starting a conversation that will help me determine how many and what colors and materials to make.
An unintended, but very positive, consequence of this is project is that I have created the opportunity to build some hybrid harps. All the Suzuki diatonic harps have the same footprint. The Manji, ProMaster, HarpMaster and all the rest have identical profiles. The only difference is the number and location of the screw holes. My Manji / ProMaster combs already had all the various screw holes so it was a simple decision to maintain that design and add the lip around the edge to create the recess and mouthpiece. So in addition to HarpMaster reed plates you can use any other Suzuki reed plates on this comb. However, you probably don’t want to use Manji or ProMaster covers because they are designed to sit back off the edge of the reed plates in the traditional Tin Sandwich design. Rather, it is best to use the HarpMaster covers. But here’s a pleasant bit of serendipity. The SUB-30 covers fit perfectly and make a very nice looking harp.
When I build a customized SUB-30 I use my BMH30 comb and External Valve Plate along with the customer’s choice of ProMaster or Manji covers. I don’t use the SUB-30 covers. When I build a SUB-30 I am converting a harp with a recessed comb to a tin sandwich. This new recessed comb for the HarpMaster enables me to do the opposite with Manji or ProMaster reed plates, provided that I have covers that will fit properly.
So, if you have any interest in these combs please let me know. No obligation on your part but I would like get a feel for which materials – Aluminum, Corian, Fancy Acrylic or Brass – Colors -- and of course quantities you would like to see me have available. I would be surprised if these combs are in as much demand as the Special 20’s so I don’t think I can justify loading up the way I have with the Special 20 combs. The pricing will be the same as the recessed combs for the Special 20’s or Seydel Session Steel. The Aluminum, Corian and Fancy Acrylic combs are $49.95 each. The Brass Combs are $64.95 each.
Besides embossing, flattening, and full overbend reedwork, reedplates edges have been smoothed for comfort. the stock comb was flat sanded to save on cost.
This harp is equally responsive to light and heavy breath pressure - no sticky reeds!
Harp will be shipped via USPS and in your hands before next weekend!
Selling HarpGear HG1. Same as the HG2 but without the redundant tone control. Comes with custom canvas cover with optional side pocket and padding. Why buy Chinese anything when you can have one of the most respected, hand made, purpose built, small harp amps out there for just a little more and you won't instantly loose money on depreciation when you take it out of the box. $575 including shipping within CONUS.

A portable workbench to fix common problems on-the-go.
This small pack of tools takes up almost no room and can handle just about anything. Includes the Fix-It tool, a small screwdriver set, a shim and an array of replacement screws for all brands of harmonicas.
The Fix-It tool can correct misaligned reeds, mishapen reeds, obstructed reeds and bring reeds back into tune. The shim can deal with tuning burs. Use the screwdriver to set the gap or otherwise apply pressure to reeds.
My Dark combs help your harmonica produce the fat woody tone you get from a harmonica with an unsealed Pearwood comb.
These are delicious, earth-friendly, high-performance combs made for demanding players. I flatten and check every comb by hand for best tone and response.
I'm very happy to announce that my first two batches of custom made fantasy marble/fancy acrylic are done and on the site. Combs are $20 each, free shipping on orders of 3 or more combs in the continental US. Combs can be mixed and matched, you don't have to get 3 of the same thing.
I have really enjoyed the creativity that making these materials has afforded me and I intend to continue making them along with my custom made micarta combs. Custom Fantasy Marble Combs
I just put a boatload of elements up on eBay. I'm happy to offer them here to MBH folks for less to avoid the eBay fees. These have all been tested through a mic into two amps, a Mission 32-20 and a Kalamazoo Model two. As you know, each element has it's own individual tone, but all of these are exceptional and ready to install and gig.

I built this from spare parts and will not be taking additional orders for builds like this. Shipping is $6 for USPS Priority.
***I didn't like the way the top coverplate sat in the video, so I used a different set of stainless screws and nuts to attach the covers so they sat cosmetically better.

These are most definitely the only two Special 20’s with CNC Milled Recessed Rosewood Combs in the world. I had these combs made a while ago and have been taking my time finishing the wood. I’m very pleased with the results. I only have two and won’t make any more unless there is a real strong interest. I do have Special 20’s available in G, A, Bb, C, D and E. You can choose the key. $115.00 each.

For Sale: Astatic T-3 microphone with screw-on connector and volume control installed by Greg Heumann/ “Blows Me Away” Productions. He installed his vintage volume control onto the swivel part of the mic so it is a permanent part of the mic. It’s a really clean, nice modification. The result is a light, streamlined mic that is easy to cup.
The element is a MC-151 crystal element with moderate output. It’s not the hottest element in the world; rather, because its output is not as hot, you can turn your amp higher and hopefully get your power tubes running a little bit hotter.
Once you do that, the mic has good tone… on the clean side when you play with light breath force, but when you lean into the harmonica with hard bends or a stronger attack and the tone gets thicker.
The mic is in pretty good condition cosmetically, but it is not perfect, as is common for mics of this age. I can send you several photos from all around the mic so that you might see the slight imperfections.
