Hi all,
I have been using a chromatic tuner for practising the bends and it works well.
I thought I'd get a Bendometer since it is specific to harps.
Upon downloading it on my Mac, I tried to install it and it failed because Java denied it. I thought I pooched the download so I did it again & it still won't work. Do any of you know how to reduce the security settings on Java to allow this app to run?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Owen,

Google....hope the below helps. It is an example only and for UNIX os not MAC

The following error occurs from an application client or in the server.log:
java.security.AccessControlException: access denied
(java.util.PropertyPermission name write...

There is a permissions issue in the policy files. Either the client.policy for the application client or the server.policy for server side components does not have permission to set the property.

Solution

Add the permission in client.policy (for the application client), or in server.policy (for EJB/web modules) for the application that needs to set the property. By default, applications only have “read” permission for properties.

For example, to grant read/write permission for all the files in the codebase directory, add or append the following to client.policy or server.policy:
grant codeBase "file:/.../build/sparc_SunOS/sec/-" {
permission java.util.PropertyPermission "*", "read,write";

I don't--but I want you to know I am nipping your usage of "pooched" as I find it charming.
Cheers!

I played around with Bendometer a few years back. It worked well, but at least at the time he didn't want to sell you the software, just a usage license; You'd have to pay up again each year.

There is, however, an alternative. Harp Ninja does everything I remember Bendometer doing, and some other things as well. You buy the software and can use it however long you want. (I think he does create newer versions with new features, but you are under no obligation to honor them.)

He's a member here too, under the username Komuso (not to be confused with member Mike Fugazi who already had dibs on the harp ninja handle on the site.)

I'll second the HarpNinja recommendation. Aside from the licensing thing, it works better and has more features. It's a fine piece of work.

Find Java on your computer--open configure- open security- set to medium from high. This should allow Bendometer to work. I agree that Harp Ninja is better and a better value. Only have to buy it once. On android there is a free "Harmonica Tuner" app.

Thankyou everyone for the help provided. I believe I shall purchase Harpninja as I can't get the security to go lower than "High" in Java 8.71
Nor will it accept an exception for Bendometer.

If you have an android phone...just download for free
an app called harmonica tuner. It is free and does what bendometer does with multiple note recognition.
You will be very happy with that.

Could not find the pro version on the playstore...so just download the free version...not sure what the difference would be.

Thankyou to all of you than helped. I really appreciate it. I purchased Harpninja and I must tell you that the proprietor, Paul Cohen, could not have been more helpful with my questions. It certainly is worth the price of admission.

@528hemi, thankyou for the tip on Harmonica Pro Tuner. I'll download it for the back porch woodshedding I do! ps- your handle is an enigma? I once had a 426 hemi and it put out about 750 HP but I never heard of a 528 hemi? Bored & stroked?
