I was listening to some Albert King the other day and I got to thinking about blues metaphors. Of course most of them have to do with doin' the deed. "I'm a crosscut saw, baby, drag me across your log..." Whats your favorite blues metaphor? ----------

I have a lyric I'm working on that goes, "I met a four, was holding out for an eight, so I'll go home and..."
I think after that I'm going to play on the fact that simile sounds sort of like similarly.
But as to the question, I'm not sure. I'll think about it for a while. I'm thinking of all sorts of allusions and some similes, but no metaphors are popping into my head. ---------- Nate Facebook

From "You've got Bad Blood Baby" by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee
"You've got Bad Blood baby...I believe you need a shot" Why don't you turn over Darlin', let Dr Brownie see what you got"
And
"Now the needle is in you baby, put your leg up on the wall" "I don't want you to miss any baby, I want you to have it all"
Pure filth! I love that song....every line in it is about making the beast with 2 backs.
You can listen to it here....

Oh man, I just remembered. Just about every tune Clarence Carter recorded. Kinda like "Granpa can't fly his kite no more cause grandma won't give him any tail." Little Car Blues aka To Many Drivers comes to mind. More traditionally any lines referring to jelly or jellyroll.

I always liked listening to Bonnie Raitt go on about her back-bones...
"Oh they want me to rock them like my back ain't got no bone I want a man to rock me like my… backbone was his own"

Screw the metaphors--I like it straight out and raw:
"The way we're going' now, my back and shoulders tired, (X3) Roll on over, I'll try it from the side." MJH--"Ain't No Tellin'."
"His stick a candy don't melt away, It just gets better, so the ladies say."
"He got a stick a candy 'bout 9 inches long, He sells it fast as a hog chewin corn."
"All the ladies, Mr. Jones has said, They always take sticks a candy to bed." MJH--"Candyman."

Got these insights from a "Sing the Blues" video...
"Dust My Broom" refers to male "self-gratification"
"Fattening Frogs for Snakes" ...Go Sonny Boy!
There is also an album of blues songs with racy lyrics...can't remember the title.

Long John Blues by Dinah Washington
I've got a dentist who's over seven feet tall Yes I've got a dentist who's over seven feet tall Long John they call him, and he answers every call
Well I went to Long Johns office and told him the pain was killin' Yes I went to Long Johns office and told him the pain was killin' He told me not to worry, that my cavity just needed fillin'
He said "when I start drillin', I'll have to give you novocaine" He said, "Yes, when I start drillin', I'll have to give you novocaine Cause ev'ry woman just can't stand the pain"
He took out his trusted drill And he told me to open wide He said he wouldn't hurt me But he'd fill my hole inside Long John, Long John, you've got that golden touch You thrill me when you drill me, and I need you very much
When he got through, he said "Baby that will cost you ten" Yes when he got through, he said "Baby that will cost you ten Six months from now, come back and see me again"
Say you're supposed to see your dentist 'Bout twice a year, that's right But I think I feel it bobbin' Yes I'll go back there tonight Long John, Long John, don't ever move away Say I hope I keep on achin' so I can see you every day.

Yo Mo you say your vid mentions,
"Dust My Broom" refers to male "self-gratification
i may be wrong but my interpretation of this line is when one Dusts there Broom it implys,
they are sweeping all there troubles away cleaning up sweeping the floor clean,
starting over again if i was English the line would go like this,
I will wake up in the morning and Sweep my troubles away it just don't sound right:)
Hers one for Ya what Does Elgin movement mean cause she got it from her head down to her feet:)

Bro we all have our interpretations, i would listen to whole song it's,
so i guess if i where to listen to as you say
he is going to play with his self for the rest of his life, cause he don't need a woman that wants every down town man she meets,so he will just manhandle himself for the rest of his life:)

Yo Bro i lifted this info
(getting ready to ) leave. "T-man" Tilman Michalke concurs and says: I guess Mr. Johnson is cleaning his room because he is about to move out.
There might also be a sexual connotation.
Melissa Fazzina wrote: I was listening to Elmore James the other day and Dust My Broom never seemed to make any sense to me,
but I had one of those sudden epiphanies....: it hit me that what he's talking about is probably (IMHO),
breaking up with his current girlfriend. So that "Dust my broom." maybe synonymous with "Shaking her off" or "shaking loose from her. If you listen to the other words, "I'm quittin' the best gal I'm lovin'. Now my friends can get in my room". Or "I'm gonna write her a letter" (a "dear Jane letter"). Then in the next verse, he's listing her short comings (why he'd want to cut her loose), and in the final verse, coming right out and saying he's going to leave. Thanks to Melissa Fazinni __________

i don't want to get too deep into nasty lyrics...but the woman in the video pointed out the connotation and then said, "well how DO you dust a broom?" and she made the actual "jacking" motion!
This confused me, but then I remembered those old brooms which are long reeds tied together in a bundle on a stick. The title is not "Sweeping the Floor" but DUSTING the BROOM. The broom is not doing the sweeping, but is being cleaned off.
Now if you'll excuse I think I'll dust my chicken.
