I went to a concert last night--Heard Eric Bibb and Grant Dermody. I guess Grant is pretty much hooked up with Eric these days--I saw the two of them play together for the first time about four or five years ago--and they were good. But these days, they've got a fine point on their act and the music was just outrageously good.

Grant was so kick-ass on acoustic harp it just blew me away. He did one number on a chro that had me and the wife crying it was so beautiful. And Grant is my number one pick in the world for a chugger--well, there is Phil Wiggins--but definitely world class.

And of course Eric was just undeniably Eric Bibb--always the troubadour with the big voice and the acoustic guitar playing that melts old guitar players like me--and the warm, soulful personality that just encapsulates the audience and protects them from the world for a while.

If you get the chance to see them, and you enjoy blues flavored music a little more to the spiritual side of life, they are well worth the price--this was the 5th time I have gone to see Eric and I hope there will be many more. . .

I will second that. I love Eric Bibb. I had the chance to hear him and Grant a few months ago at a recording for Mountain Stage in Charleston, WV. Thet are an excelent duo.

I was also fortunate to have Grant Durmody as an instructor at Augusta Blues Week in Elkins,WV. His lessons and advice have helped point me in a better musical direction. (and Phil Wiggins was there too.)

I'm glad you all have seen and heard Bibb & Dermody (as I call them). Even better, Jim, is having Grant as an harp instructor. And Dermody and Wiggins together? Harp student heaven! I was fortunate to have Grant as instructor a couple of years at the glorious but now defunct Telluride Blues and Brews festival's Acoustic Blues Camp (Phil Wiggins was instructor one year, too). That's where Grant met Eric Bibb several years ago.

Grant, in addition to being a KILLER acoustic blues harmonica player is one incredibly nice and giving man as those who have met him well know. If you ever get a chance to see Bibb and Dermody, jump on it. Or if you get a chance to catch a lesson from him, say hey to Grant for me and take a recorder; you'll wanna study your lessons with him for years to come.

Here's a clip from last December when Bibb and Dermody took the stage at the Telluride, Colorado Sheridan Opera House:

Also if you want to hear more B&D, check out this link to several Bibb shows on National Public Radio:

Note that Grant plays on the majority of songs as the only guest artist on Bibb's recent release, "Booker's Guitar," a tribute to Booker White. (Bibb even plays Booker's actual resonator guitar.)

I hope you acoustic blues harpers enjoy these links as much as I do.

I might have also mentioned that Grant has his own web site where you can find information about his two excellent CDs, "Crossing That River," and "Lay Down My Burden:"

Grant also plays fiddle tunes on his harmonicas and is a member of the band, "The Improbabillies:"

You can probably tell that I'm a big Grant Dermody fan. 8^)
