Well, we've gotten a lot of info on amp preferences and harmonica preferences. Seems time to jump into a good discussion about favorite harp mics. I'm a relatively new player - beginner/amateur. I originally picked up a Hohner Blues Blaster and don't have anything to compare it to. However my sense so far is that it can get nice and dirty when the volume is turned up, however it seems it can also get pretty hot and shrill on the highs. Also, with my beautiful harpgear amp, I seem to hear every little nuance of breath behind the notes. In other words, I'm picking up every little whisper of sound and as a beginning player, that's not necessarily a good thing. Wondering if a different mic might mitigate some of that.

I use a 'Bottle o' Blues' mic with a small practise amp. The write up is very good for the mic & I have found it gives a nice sound. All for 44.00 USD or 22.00 GBP - NEW !!!!

I have a bottle o blues mic and a controled reluctance bullet. The bottle o blues has a good sound but I can't get the volume I get with the bullet. The bullet has a warm clean tone and the bullet is more distorted. I like them both. My wife found the bottle o blues mic inside the felt bag I keep it in and thought it was a crack pipe. I dodged the bullet on that one.

^ pun intended? (dodged a "bullet" in a harp forum makes me think of a bullet mic)

I generally use a Shure 520DX better known as a Green Bullet. I also own a 545SD, a Astatic JT30, a Hohner Blues Blaster, and a couple others. But I always come back to the GB. I like the feel of it in my hand, and blowing it through my '71 Fender Champ, or straight into the P.A. sounds fine. The problem with the vintage mics is that there are only a finite number of elements remaining and once there gone, they're gone. I have also tried and been impressed by the Shaker mic (not sure if it was crystal or dynamic) as it had some "balls". At any rate, ya can't go wrong with a GB though it is wise to have it modified to have a switchcraft connecter. Best to all, Chipper http://www.myspace.com/chipperharp

I've decided on a Roland Miro Cube for a starter amp and am now looking for a mic and am thinking about a Shure 57 type. Question I have is does the Shure to Micro Cube need an impedance matching transformer to get the most out of the combo?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I use a Pignose and JT30 for practicing electric harp. A guitar strap and old camera lens case(for the mic) easily attach to the amp for ease and convenience.

Tweed--yes, you would need an impedence transformer with the 57. Guitar amps want high impedence sources, the Shure 57 is low impedence. Coast2Coast sells them,I know. Probably find one at your local guitar store, too.

Go see Dave Kott at http://greenbulletmics.com/ for your mic. Dave is a wealth of knowlege and a great source for mics, repair and amp repair also. I'd say Dave knows more about shure products than just about anyone else.

I just bought a Superlus D112C myself and I think that it works great. I dont have any other harp mics to compar it to, but I think it's a really good mic.
I am playing it through a roland microcube amplifier.

Just wanted to post my contribution. I use this mic that I made by myself (therefore costless). I took the idea from this site : http://www.planetharmonica.com/ph2/VF/TMI-mic.htm It has been reviewed by some of the best french harp player (you guys take it as a reference or not) and they all think it is a great mic. Sorry the article is in french but I guess you will figure out with the schema.
