What kind of harmonica does James Cotton currently play? If anyone knows the answer I would really appreciate it. But could you also include the name of a website that proves your answer? I would like to know for sure that you are correct.

Cotton plays Marine Bands. Carries them in a Fender Tweed case. I've met him a couple of times and you can see a couple pics of him at

Along with custom MB's, Cotton officially endorses Suzuki's Pure Harp recently:

"The sound and quality of Suzuki's Pure Harp far surpasses any harmonicas I've ever played - and I've been playing for 66 years and I'm still going strong. At my age I figure, "Why not have it all!" This harp is a joy to play and the rosewood is beautiful to look at."

I last saw Cotton 7 months ago. In his case I saw all Marine Bands and don't recall seeing any Suzukis. He also plays Chromatic though I am not sure which.
At any rate, a lot of the oldtimers stick by what they have used for years. Though they have drifted to other harps here and there, most, as Hohner gets their quality back, go back. Hence a guy like James Montgomery uses Blues Harps and Cotton Uses Marine Band. I spoke at length with Bobby Rush regarding harps and what he used. We also talked about the diminished quality and that as of yet, nothing beat the old standbys: Hohner Marine Band. Musselwhite has also tried switching around and presently is enjoying wood combed Golden Melodies that he somehow scores out of Italy.
Below is a pick of myself with James Montgomery, his girl, and James Cotton.
Best,
Chipper
