i've always heard that it's bad to bend on a new harp. I was wondering if this was true and if it is true why? Also, i just got a new harmonica case and it smells pretty bad, i was wondering if anyone knew a way to get rid of the smell.

Regarding the bends on a new harp - it's a total myth started by a misprint in an old Hohner flyer that came with their harps.

Its not bad to play bent notes on a new harp , after all you carnt blow the blues with out bending notes
