i doubt it does, but do the cover plates of the harmonica affect the tone at all? I woudln't imagine that they do, but i'm just wondering. Also...what's woodshedding?

Yes.

Cover plates are involved in the projection of the sound waves, and also vibrate to some degree.

Coverplates that are thinner, tend to vibrate more which affects the sound.

Coverplates that are thicker, tend to dampen the sound.

Opening up the cover plates is one way custom harps are modified for volume, and some folks swap cover plated from one harp, or mix and match parts for sound they prefer.

If you take a Bb soprano sax and a Bb clarenet, they are the same pitch, but are percieved differntly from their sound. The clarenet tends to have a mellow, airy woody sound and the sax has a brite and crisper sound.

(although with technique, you can get varied sound form both)

Harp coverplate are like that, but to a smaller degree.

Horn players also have various metals (copper, silver brass, and other alloys) for the horn, and both lacquered and bare metal to chabge the sound from warm, mellow to brite and brassy.

hope that helps.

Hello my harp friend. WOODSHEDDING. is a word used by Adam Gussow that refers to the place that all harmonica players have to practice with their favourite instrument our beloved harmonica. (of course always trying not to disturb anyone, jajaja). Therefore the best definition for it I think is practice with the instrument.
