Since I'm fairly tone deaf, I can never tell if I'm in the right key or not when jamming to a song on my iPod or the radio. That's fine by me, but sometimes I'd like to know what harp the artist is playing. I thought I'd start this thread as a source for us to figure out what key a song is in.
Most of us know Whammer Jammer is in the key of E, played on an A harp.
I'd like to know what key Charlie McCoy plays on Orange Blossom Special.
Are there any standard songs you can volunteer? Any you want figured out?

for your orange special song i've looked on youtuve and the first thing I noticed is that he uses two harps. Second if you play cross harp, I think he uses: after a try the 4th blow note of a C harp which is a C I think, and looking at my chart, it would then be a F harp. but don't know if he plays cross harp because I tried some of his stuff and c harp works quite well.

sorry but after looking at his mouth, he seems to draw to play the beggining of the tune. On my previous post I said it worked well on a C harp but you need to blow 456 to do what he does so the pieces don't feet. Try a F harp and tell us (unfortunetly I don't have one to confirm what I say). Oh I just wanted to make sure it was the right song : the lint to what I listened to is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_cT14JALaQ&feature=related

On the CD - The Greatest Hits of Charlie McCoy the harps used on Orange Blossom Special are an F & Bb. The keys are C & F.

OK, next song: Runaway by Bonnie Raitt. It has that great Norton Buffalo harp solo. What key does he use?

You're right: I should have Googled. And holy crap! 4 harps for one solo! I thought I had it down with one harp. I'm learning that I don't know nearly as much as I used to!

Yeah, Norton Buffalo is simply a harp genius. He has a lot of creative intricate solos like that. I love his work with Roy Rogers.
