I have numerous Blues Harps and a Marine Band that are 30 plus years old and would like to know the method for changing the nails to screws. I've opened them up for cleaning and maintenance over the years and the covers on some aren't as tight as I'd like. Can anyone provide step by step instructions(detailed, I can be dense)? Thanks

Check this site. Used it myself for 6 of my own and it works. Be careful about drill bit sizes!

It is also possible to tighten the nails by breaking the tip of a toothpick off in the hole--sand it a bit--then press the nails back in. It worked for me pretty well, but I like the screws better. Instead of tapping the plates for screws on one plate, I just use nuts. Size 2 stainless screws & nuts about 3/4" long are good--don't replace the 4 nails nearest the cover holes--with nuts or pan head screws these will get in the way of replacing the covers.
