Does anybody know where you can buy different parts for Hohner MS Series harps? Specifically, Meisterklasse replacement covers? I have checked on EBay, harponline.de, honerusa.com, and done general searches.
I have been able to find replacement reeds on several sites, but no covers or combs. I found a link to a site on tenhole.com, but there were no individual combs or plates for sale, only customized harps.
If I have missed something on one of these sites, or if someone knows of a site I haven't found yet, please let me know.
For those of you that are mechanically inclined or "handy", harp customizations can be a great hobby. I really don't do anything extraordinary myself, but there is something about adding your own personal touches to your harps.
I started out with opening the back of a special 20. The next thing I did was adjust gaps on a Marine Band for oveblowing. The next thing was bees wax on the rivet end of the reeds. I've even tried embossing once, but ruined a reed doing it, so I need to brush up on that. Like learning how to play the thing isn't frustrating enough, now I've got myself hooked on how to make it play better.

Hey dude
I'm exactly where you're at trying this stuff for the first time. I could replace the nails on 6 marine bands with screws, seal the combs and do a resonable job at curling the reeds but embossing seems impossible. I spent about an hour embossing a low G and about 4 hours having to de-emboss so I could get a note out of the thing. So frustrating. The tolerance seems so tiny that I left it alone on my main MBs. Leave it to proper customisers until I get better at it I reckon.

Hohner is now offering a list you can download of available parts you can order from them. It has pricing, and a phone number you can call to make your order.

More power to you for having a go at working on your harps, but my suggestion would be don't buy new covers, get the the ones you have chromed. Hohner cover plates are only a nickel plate finish which degrades at an appalling rate. Even the black Pro Harp covers corrode making them virtually unplayable. How do Hohner get away with it? Do they assume that the harp will blow out so quickly that they don't need a long lasting finish on the cover plates? I have several Suzuki harps, all chromed covers, Lee Oskar the same, even the lowly (and much under rated) Huang Star Performer costing only £8 has chrome covers. The Hering Free Blues which are as cheap as chips have what appears to be stainless steel covers. WAKE UP HOHNER, YOU'RE GETTING LEFT BEHIND. I have customised a few MB's and the chrome covers make them much more comfortable to play. A friend of mine does the chroming for me so I can't tell you how much it would cost but I bet it's not much more than new covers.

I buy MS reed plates from Antony Dannecker in the UK, he does meisterclass reed plates drilled and hand tuned. He tuned Larry Adlers Harps and I love them, his hand tuned meisterclass is cheaper than an off the shelf one and you get the choice of cover plates. A hand tuned meisterclass for half the price of one from a music store or just reed plates. I prefer cross harp painted covers as I am a dry player and my lips stick on chrome covers but you can have Meisterclass covers or MB's.
He even takes paypal so currency exchange is not a problem. I get them and I live in New Zealand
