I have been playing the harp for about four years now.
I am at and past the point where I would really like to find a guitar player to jam with. I have posted some flyers at local music stores...no results.
Any tips on how to go about this would be of great help!

Where do you live and what kind of music do you want to jam?

Mansfield Texas is where I live. On the south side of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Been doing Blues and some Gospel Blues.

go to harmonicaclub.com. try to get hold of a fellow named spider. he lives in the area and can help you out.

there is a good harmonica club in the area, if i'm not mistaken. "hoot"- harmonica organization of texas. they have a chapter in dallas. google that.

another idea that i have used; hang around the music store and start a conversation with folks trying guitars.

Thanks for the tips,
"H.o.o.t." meets in north Dallas once a month. It's about 40 miles away but may be something I need to invest in.

I'll check out that site and try to catch the spider.

I never thought about hanging out in the guitar section of a music store. Great idea! I know there must a whole "music underground" out there. Just a matter of meeting a musician or two and branching out from there.

Thanks for the tips!
Jeff

I've had great luck with craigslist. There's always a bunch of people looking to jam in my area that post on the local craigslist.

I just found this site that might help those who are looking for a jam--it's supposed to be place where you can get groups going who have a common interest. I haven't found the perfect match for me yet--but there are a few that are very close.

http://www.meetup.com/

just go search on harmonica--then it gets your zip code and finds groups for you--you can also get your own groups going.

sometimes people aren't always forthcoming with their talents. I have been playing for about six months (bedroom only)and I was cranking up the amp one saturday arvo experimenting and my neighbour heard. I've known this guy for about three years but it was only after we got onto the topic of harmonica that he told me he was into playing blues guitar and we should have a jam. Never mentioned that he played guitar before let alone into the blues. Suppose the message here is sometimes with this internet age and a worldwide community we sometimes miss whats right in front of us.

You'r right about that. I keep feeling like there is a guitar player someplace really close, saying to himself,
"I sure wish I could find a blues harp player"
How far are you and your neighbor from Texas?

About 8,245 miles away in Bribane Australia. If it helps, his house is closer to Texas than mine. We're all going to need some bigger amps!

The guy 2 doors up from me always has a geetar on the seat in his front room so one day i plucked up the courage to ask him if he wanted to jam a bit, knocked on the door and he invited me in, so into the front room i went,i explained that i was trying to learn to play bloos harp and would he like to jam a bit now and then, it was only then that i checked his geetar and saw that it was all dusty and had no strings!the big poser just had it by the window cos he thought it made him look cool!,que embarrasing silence, but it all turned out OK cos although he can't play shit on the geetar he turned out to be a bloody good harp player, ain't life weird?
