Hello!

I'm new here so I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Maciek and I'm a 19 year old harp player from Poland.

That's enough about me. Now I would like to ask you a question. I've recently bought an Astatic 10 C ceramic microphone from 1963. I suppose that this is a piece of nice equipement. But I have to plug it in something. I wolud like to get a small practice amp, mostly for busking, some jams, and little rehearsals. I was wondering about 3 mini amps:

1. Zinky's Smokey Amp
2. Danelectro HoneyTone Amp
3. Pignose 7-100

Smokey and HoneyTone are about 25-30$, smokey has no knobs at all, Danelectro has volume, tone ad gain control.

Pignose is the most expensive and the biggest (what will increase the shipping costs) of them all, but as I was able to hear it on youtube, has the best tone. Which solution is the best (or most compromise)?

Thank you for your help!
Very best!
Maciek.

I have a Danelectro Honeytone.... and have had Marshall (similar in size) and some others... none in my book can match the Honeytone plus for bigger sound you can always mic. it to a larger amp.... also use a Danelectro "Corned Beef" Reverb pedal with that amp and it makes a good combo and both run off 9V I use NI-MH Rechargables but always keep a couple of spare Alkalines in my case.

Hoi Maciek,
I would say go for the Pignose. It’s a great little amp. And with your Astatic mic it will sound unbelievable big. The Honeytone is nice but the Pignose is in my opinion better for harp. The Smokey is a nice gadget witch I own and carry in my harp case always

I have the little Pignose amp and like it.

The Piggy also can be plugged in to other amped equipment so you can almost always be "stage ready" should you get in vited, and the amp is very portable.

It also has the ability to use an AC adapter to use besides battery power.

Hi! I didn't write here for a while. But I finnaly made a decision and bought a HoneyTone. I found one cheap on eBay and purchased it. When I plugged my Astatic into it I was really shocked when I've heard it!. The tone is big for the amp size, greatly overdriven, with much bottom and dynamics. My friend even said that it sounds tube like. If you would like to hear it, here are my 2 samples:

I have a Bottle-O-Blues mic and a hat box amp (US Blues A-30G mini amp) from Gindick. I still use it for practice.

Thanks Oisin for your kind words :). I saw that Hodad on eBay. It has additional tremolo and reverb which could be nice, also two speakers for wider sound stage. But I can't say nothing more about it, because I didn't try it. But, basing on my experience with HoneyTone, those Danelectro mini amps rock! They're both cheap solid states so I think that electronic stuff in side is similar, so the tone also would be (except additional effects of course). Also, both got great design :).

ON this subject, I scored a Pignose like new 7-100 for $60 at a local pawn shop. 6 aa batteries or a 9VDC supply. I must say, I am shocked by the volume! What a great little box. On that Hodad, I would be interested if anyone tried it. Interesting at the low price with some effects built in. ANyway, hope my wife does not leave me with amp'ed playing now. Took up morotcycles for my 50th birthday, harps when I was 60.

Maybe I need medication....
