hey boys,

I´m a beginner on the harmonica!

I read in a book that when you use tongue blocking you play for example the 3 hole and the 1 and 2 you cover with your tongue! But can you also play the 1 hole and cover the 2 and 3? I ask, because when you use flutter tongue blocking you usually flutter the below holes and not the higher holes!
And when do I have to chance between the right oder the left
side to cover?

best wishes!

i think most tb-ers just slide the harp to the right so the 1 hole is the only hole available. however, blocking 2 and 3 is an acceptable method.

there are no hard set rules on how to play. do what seems to work for you. feel free to experiment.

being able to switch your tongue to play out of either side is an advanced technique. the more techniques you can master will make you that much more versatile of a player.

Once I had a person pick up one of my harps and tweedle on it. Said, "Hell, I can do that !"

So I picked it up said " Can you do this ??? "
and played it with my NOSE, (and Yes I can).

She never picked up one of my harps again.

It doesn't sound too purty and it sure don't
look purty, but as E-harp said " Whatever works."

If I'm doing a 4D,let's say. I cover holes 1,2 and 3 with the right side of tongue. It just feels natural that way.

I knew you had one eye that is dominant. The one you would site a gun with. And you are right handed or left handed. I'm not a dancer but I think we are right and left footed.
It would seem this it true of our tongues as well.
If I do that same 4D with the other side of my tongue, it sounds like i got drunk on the way back from the dentist.

This left/right line must extend straight down the center of our bodies. I'll stop right here.
