When I try to preview Adam's latest Tradebit lessons posted today, as well as the postings of June 16, my QuickTime video comes up for a second then disappears leaving only the audio controls visible and I cannot view the preview. I can view older previews. Is there a QuickTime or other setting I should change?

Thanks

I've tried to view them on 5 different computers (Apple and PC) and haven't been able to see them either. All of the older ones work fine as usual.

Thanks Jeff. I vaguely? remember Adam mentioning Tradebit not showing previews as they once did in one of his recent YouTube advisories.

BTW great post on the Walter Boogie thread

You can thanks Glenn Weiser. After contacting him, he's also come through for me on some obscure Little Walter tabs. He's a great guy.

The previews dont work for me either.

If you are looking at purchasing the lesson on bending 3 hole draw it is worth it's weight in gold.

Not only do I have a better understanding of bending the 3 hole draw, not that I can do all the steps yet, I also picked up a couple of guitar riffs. So you get double your moneys worth.

As a matter of fact any lesson I have purchased I always walk away picking up a little bit of knowledge and know how even the couple that are above my skill level.

I spend more a day on coffee than Adam charges for lessons.

I guess what I am trying to say the Previews are not needed.

Guys:

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble accessing the previews. I've just tried them, and all of them worked for me.

What I suggest is that a couple of you--no more than the handful of you who have already posted about your difficulties--email Ralf, who is the CEO of Tradebit. Seriously. He's a code guy, a programmer, who happens to have gone into business. I really don't think he'll mind three or four emails about the same problem. As I say, I have no trouble getting the previews to work, but there's enough smoke here to warrant investigating the fire.

Ralf Schwoebel (I think that's how you spell his last name): puzzler@tradebit.com

PLEASE only the folks who have already posted. If fifty of you email him, he'll be pissed off. But if three of you email and say, "Adam said he thought you ought to take a look," and you tell him what browswer you're using, what type of internet service, the obvious stuff, he'll check it out. He's always improving what Tradebit does.

I may have figured out what's going on.

Until recently, I created preview files for MBH by working from the original iMovie files, then saving them in Quicktime.

Recently, over the past couple of months, after I got Quicktime Pro, I began to work from the Quicktime versions of the full length lessons. This was much faster. After I'd created the preview (Quicktime) videos, I had the option of saving them in one of two forms: as "self-contained" videos, which contained their own players; and as "reference" videos, which required "external media"--i.e., another Quicktime video nearby to slave off of, so to speak. The self-contained videos were much larger than the reference videos.

At first I saved my preview videos as self-contained, but problems arose when I did that; the large file size meant that it took a very long time, up to 60 seconds, for the previews to load.

So I saved them the other, smaller way, as reference videos. And that's how I've been uploading them.

There's an easy way to tell if this is what's creating the problem. The last lesson for which I used my old method was the "Bending the 4 draw" lesson. After that I switched to reference videos. Here's a list of the reference video previews:

Bending-the-2-draw
Bending-the-3-Draw
Sunday-Driver
Chicken-Shack
Night-Train

Would those of you who've recently had problems check out the previews for the 4 Draw lesson and all of the above lesson. If you have no trouble with the first but trouble with all the rest: bingo! I'll have to go back to my old method of creating previews.

URGENT!

I do think that I've discovered the problem, which is what I suspected it was.

I've just uploaded a shorter preview file for "Night Train" (video and tab), and redone is as a self-contained movie. It's a 1 mb file--larger than the reference, but it still opens quickly, at least for me.

Please, guys: check out the preview and tell me if it works for you. If so, we've figured this out. I'll go back and redo the other preview files. In fact, I just may go ahead and do that this morning.

I owe you guys an apology. I've just gone back through all my recent lessons--from mid-February on--and even on my computer I was unable to access previews for the following:

Bending the 3 Draw
John Lee Hooker's Boogie Blues
Sunday Driver
Bending the 2 Draw
Blues Harmonica Tone Clinic
Counting and Playing 12 bar blues
Chicken Shack

I believe I know what the problem is and will fix these ASAP. I've already fixed "Night Train."

My apologies.

Hey Adam,

Yup that fixes it, the preview for Night Train works.

Man you have been busy I just realized how many lessons are available now. How do you do it? They must have 48 hour days down in Mississippi.

Thanks
Tom

Guys:

I've fixed 'em all, as far as I can tell. Now I'm mortified by the fact that people haven't been able to access the previews to any lessons I uploaded over the past 4-5 weeks.

Thanks! to all here who alerted me to the problem. Please don't hesitate to email directly (asgussow@aol.com) when and if you encounter problems with files. In the great majority of cases it's not my fault, but rather some sort of anomaly with the Tradebit system--or else you not having Quicktime 7.2 or later.

But in this case it WAS my fault, completely, and I'm glad to have had somebody watching my back, and speaking up. Thanks Tweed!

Adam:

The thank you's also go to you for listening ad responding to your customers comments. A sign of a successful enterprise. My effort was actually small compared to the work you have put into both the Tradebit and YouTube lessons. Mil Gracias.

I have previewed all your latest lessons and have compiled a list to purchase that will keep me busy for awhile.

Thanks again for your quick response.
