I've got a cube and I'm really happy with it...If I play through it (with a cheap karaoke mic) it sounds ok....if my teacher plays through with the same mic, it sounds awesome...
(there is a lesson in here)
And don't be fooled by the low wattage, the micro cube is pretty loud, especially if you are playing alone.
I've never cranked it all the way up because it's way too loud (when playing at home)

Hope this helps

I've heard great things about the legendary pignose portable amp.

I've used a friends Micro Cube when jamming at a medium sized gathering and it was plenty loud. As a result I bought one and use it when I jam with Charlie Hilbert's and other jam tracks. It has an auxiliary input I connect to a CD or other player and an headset output that when used bypasses the units speaker so I can practice at night without waking the neighborhood.

I've got a Vox DA-5 and it works great. Battery or plug in powered, switchable wattage from 1.5 to 5 watts, built in effects. I was ready to buy a Roland cube, and I think the salesman at the store twisted my arm on the Vox by offering it at a lower price than the Roland. Worth checking out to see if it works for you or not.
