I'm going to be making some wooden harp cases, and will line them with spanish cedar, and the handle will be a (blown out) harp. I'll also be putting rare earth magnets in them to hold the harps in place.

I've noticed that different brands are different sizes. I've got Marine Bands, Golden Melodies, Lee Oskar, Special 20, Huang Silvertone Deluxe, Bushman Delta Frost, and a Big River. I don't have any Suzuki's, Meisterklasse, or any others. I want to make sure that the case fits all diatonics, so I was wondering if you guys might be able to measure your harps to the nearest 1/32nd of an inch and post them here. I'll need length, height, and depth.

Also, how many harps should a case hold?

Thanks!

I have mostly SP 20's. You have the specs for those, so I can't help you out there. As far as how many it should hold, you might check whats on the market now. My guess is you would need to make more than one size case. Seems like you always want the harp you don't have with you!

Seems like Deja Vu again! Didn't this go around once before? Great Idea--the magnets--

I built a really serviceable harp case out of an old plastic lunch box--the larger kind--made the sections that hold the harps out of plexiglass and put it together whith velcro on the edges--the harps go in endwise--so the length doesn't much matter (in case you end up getting an MB 365 or an SBS--like I did). The velcro allows for future re-thinking of the sizes. Mine holds 20 harps, a cleaning and tool kit, a little recorder, and a towel in the lid to help with the cleaning. I wish I had 20 good harps to populate it with--but I always seem to be at least a little short on harps.

The rig is butt-ugly--so nobody would ever steal it--but it works great.

Don't really have any advise for you on sizes--but be sure to leave a space for a cleaning and maintenance kit. . .
