Does anyone else in here own an amp from Harpgear, made by Brain Purdy? I have to say I went and got myself a Double Trouble model from his site www.harpgear.com and I can't stop talking about it. It has such amazing tone, and the bottom end is rich and fat. It can compete with the loudest most annoying guitar players at jams, and it also is heard over a mic'd drum set. Just plug in a mic cable to the back of the amp and your also comming out the PA as well. As for feedback there is very little, you can basically stand right in front, which is great for small venues, crank it and no problems. I know I sound like a commerical, but I can't say enough about it. If your in the market for one, please go check it out.

i got a HARPGEAR II and it rocks. i have only used a few times so far but it growls nicely.

i had the neighbor come over 1 night to see what the heck was blaring out of the bedroom window. he is a musician. he was shocked when he saw the "tiny, little thing" was the culprit. i had him play while i went outside. i was sort of embarrassed that i was so loud! and it wasnt even full throttle!

i am very glad i sold my blues jr. and upgraded.

and it looks cool, too, what with the tweed and grill and cover.

Hey I have a HarpGear II also and I absolutely love it.
I finally get to use it for the first time out of my house Saturday Night so I am looking forward to see how it does vs other amps. I was waiting to post about the amp after I played with others but I could not resist jumping on this thread.

Brian is absouletly amazing. He shipped me one and it got lost by the shipper. Brian more than made it right. He is very trustworthy not to mention a great craftsman.

The amp is even more than I expected and the lows are amazing. This is not an ad but check him out at http://www.harpgear.com/

Hi guys, I've been looking to get me an amp for a while. It'll be my 1st proper amp and I'm sill undecided on whether to buy a second hand vintage, Harpgear, A new valve jr with 5 year warranty and a few others besides, it seems they all have their own pro's and cons . I have only heard good things about the harpgear but I'm a bit worried about bein stung by customs charges ( I live in lil ole England and it seems we get stung on everything ) has anyone reading this got one into the UK if so, could you tell me the custom charges. luke_juke - I got a harpgear 2 amp delivered to the UK, it was $840 for the amp in in 240V configuration , $120 postage and about £90 for the handling and taxes.

I reckon the harpgear 2 amp stands me at £600 all in, which is more than I budgeted for, but I got a lot more amp than I bargined for.

You need to see brian's amps in the flesh to appreciate them, and hear them too.

Any old second hand cheap tube amp will produce a sound, however you will probably not be overly happy with it. You have to try it out and trust you ears to decide if you like it our not. You also should consider what purpose you are buying the amp for. Are you playing gig's? Open Jams? or just for practice? If you gig and want to find an amp that 1) has the power and juice to have your harp heard over guitars and drums. 2) Is made for harmonica (small magnetic speakers) and helps to reduce feedback. I had a blues jr. as my first amp. It had a big 12" large magnetic speaker in it, feedback was horrible, and just was not a good harmonica amp. If you want to just find an amp to mess around with I would recommend a tube amp, but try to find something vintage like a small Kay or Premier amp. Also, go to harpamps.com and read up on some different kinds of amps. Bottom line is if you want a good amp, get one that is made for harps. You pay for what you get.
