Does anyone have any feedback on Fat Dog amplifiers?
I've been playing through a Blues Jr. but need something a bit louder and grittier tone, Fat Dogs seem to be just what I need and I can actually afford it.

I have never played through a Fat Dog, so I really can't speak to the performance of them. I like you started out playing through the Blues Jr, and it was a feedback nightmare. So, like you I searched out for a reasonable and ecomonical solution. I soon learned that you get what you pay for, and if you're a serious player then you should make a few investments in some good gear.

I went with a Harpgear "Double Trouble"- from www.harpgear.com, Brian Purdy is the guy who makes them and he has several models. Harpgear 1 and Harpgear 2 are cheaper models but probably would suit your purposes just as good as the fat dog. They are light to carry, have great tone bulit for harmonica playing, and they are loud! They can cut right through a band no problem, and if you need more there is a line out in the back so you can plug a mic chord right into there and out through the PA you come too.

The decision is yours, but def call Brian and check out his amps. He presonally talked to me in detail about every aspect I wanted and delivered what he promised. You will not have any "buyers remorse" with his amps.

Buy without fear, they're good amps and Rob's good to work with.

Harpgear amps have a pretty good following. I know a few player that have them and can't stop praising them. I think you would be happy if you spent the money to go with Harpgear.

If your are willing to save yourself some bucks and give your Blues Junior another chance, then take note. Make sure you get the tubes that are harp happy. Harp Depot has the tube kit that is what you want. The next step is very important. Blues Juniors were factory set to have mid level tone (right where harps want to feed back most). DO the Bill Machrone Twinstack mod. All it is ....is shorting (soldering) two legs of the mid tone pot together. It takes 15 minutes tops. What this does is puts the mid range tone to zero ( you will have extended the range of the mid range tone control). You will have a much easier time controlling feedback and actually be able to hone in on some pretty awesome harp tone.

I had planned on getting the mod kit from B. Machrone, but he hasn't answering the emails I sent several weeks ago. I don't know what's up with that. So I gave up on him. I will take your advise on the tubes though.
Yeah, lots of Harpgear fans, I'll certainly consider it. It's gonna take me a few weeks to save up either way, so I have time to think about it.
Thanks for your help guys!
