Perhaps this has been discussed previously in some manner. I have always liked the durability of, and the ease of repair for LO's. Most of the time, their brightness is fine. There are other times where MB's and Golden Melody's have a mellower tone...especially with lower pitched keys. I thought I would try a little experiment. One of my Am harps needed maintenance. With the covers off, I used a Dremel tool to put two holes on each side of the bottom cover and one hole in each side of the top cover. After tuning and reassembly, I tested it against other LO's, both from my own and with a few of my bandmates as audience. All agreed that this worked.
I will now try this with a major key harp for a more direct comparison.

I like the LO harps too. Interested to know how your experiments turn out.

I found that " TURBO-LID " replacement covers for the special 20 and some others also changes the tone on thos models. Turbo lid is a clear colored replacement (snap together) color coded cover for these harps. I especially like them in the low keys and the fit into the hand as well as being fatter at the low note end helps for quick orientation.
