Yes indeed, Alan is very underated much like Doctor Ross. Malcom of Memphis Music on Beale turned me on to these guys years ago. If I had to burn 20 songs on CD and only have this to listen to for life "Boogie Chillun #2" off Hooker n Heat album would defintely be one. I've been working on the boogie for 2 days now, and am totally consumed by it.
If I can every get this down with just 3/4 of the "mojo" Alan put on it, I would throw all my instructional material in the trash and call my learning complete.:) It should be "breezy" and driving, if it sounds mechanical when I practice I try again.
I can't quiet get the vamping to sound right, much less the solo. Very soulful shit coming out the Blind Owls harp, I love it.

I don't think I've heard Adam do anything with this particular tune--but there are some early lessons on how to get enough air to do it smoothly--just with other tunes. . .

I agree, Alan Wilson was a very original harp player. I love his intensity.
I was a big Canned Heat fan in high school, and came across Boogie Chillun #2 in the early 80's. It's on the Hooker N Heat Album, which came out shortly after Alan Wilson died. That's why he's not on the Album Cover, just his face in a picture on the wall. I was a drummer back then, heard this album...and said...I wanna do that!!
Still trying.....LOL

That's all we can do...keep at it brother.
There is some other great stuff on the Hooker N Heat album, especially the "out takes" of Bob Hite, and John Lee Hooker talking between tunes. You could tell that Hooker was impressed with Wilson, he even calls him "the cat" and calls out "Alan!! Alan!!" during a solo. Great stuff.
