Anyone here use a different style? I can do deep mouth and upper lip, but do not play that way on a regular basis. Rarely when gigging on a limited number of SBII songs where I use upper lip and play acoustic. Most of the time, holding a mic prevents me from playing these unorthodox styles. Something that I adopted unconsciously is the 45 degree slant. Henry Mancini's session player and studio sound tech noticed this while observing my playing. He remarked that the only other one that he knew of that played this way is Toots Thielmans. I can get double lip blocking this way, and other various articulated effects.

I believe L D Miller plays with a pretty big slant. ---------- "Without music, life would be a mistake" -Nietzsche

I had heard about LD Miller, but had never seen him. The friend that told me about him had the wrong name. Quite the phenom. I see that he has performed with several friends of mine, including Pierre LaCocque.
I have a more extreme slant, and it is reverse of his style....with the low end pointed up toward my left eye. Maybe it is due to my diadextrousness. It could also be from holding my Shaker mic and harp in just the left hand much of the time. Just natural for me, I guess.
