Hey everyone! All of us at Smithsonian Folkways would like to tell you about a great new album by guitarist-singer John Cephas and his harmonica-player partner Phil Wiggins, entitled “Richmond Blues.” Drawing from roots of ragtime, ballads, country, old-time string band, R&B, and more, Cephas & Wiggins personify the century-old blues sound of the Virginia Piedmont tradition.

You can check it out and listen to clips at: http://folkways.si.edu/albumdetails.aspx?itemid=3216

Or you can listen to a full length stream at:
www.myspace.com/smithsonianfolkways

If you enjoy it, the album is available to purchase on CD and as a digital download directly from Smithsonian Folkways – www.folkways.si.edu

Also, check out this recent article about Cephas & Wiggins and Piedmont blues in the Wall Street Journal:

I purchased the CD and must say it is worth every penny. My teacher Grant Dermody helped familiarize me with Cephas and Wiggins. If you like the Piedmont style of blues this is a great CD to own.

The Folkways folks quite honorably approached me about whether it'd be OK for them to offer this sort of ad/advisory on this forum. I told them Go ahead.

I've loved Cephas and Wiggins for a long time. Along with Saffire: Uppity Blues Women, they were holding down the duo/trio acoustic bluesy thing during the late 1980s/early 1990s when Satan and Adam were making their way into the scene. I saw them life a handful of times and always enjoyed what they did. It's hard to come along in the aftermath of Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and mine the same territory in a fresh way, but Cephas & Wiggins really get it done.

Folkways sent me the album. Great stuff. I recommend it highly.
