Todd, yep, I have a Huang Silvertone deluxe from that period and it is still great. The Star performer I bought a couple of months back (in response to this thread) is crap by comparison. If you want a cheap harp, the Hohner Silver Star at 12 bucks is way better IMO. ---------- Lucky Lester

Thank you, Todd, for the info. I recently bought a Huang Silvertone Deluxe and it's out of tune and does not seem to be of the same quality of the Silvertones I got in the 1990s.

I've been playing two Silvertone Deluxes, one in D and one in G, for five or six months now. They're both still in tune and responding on each reed. Don't get me wrong, they're still leaky and I don't much care for their large, angular coverplates. But they still make good bargain price backups that'll last a good long while, at least IME.
On the original topic of the Star Performer, Rockin Ron has started carrying them again in C, D, and G, and he tells me he may get them in F depending on whether his distributor gets them to him or not. Going for $16.50 a harp.

That Silver Star any better than a Bluesband or Pocket Pal? ----------

I noticed Rockin Ron has some keys of Star Performer in stock at a good price. I have used them, they work great for the price.

I have 16 Star performers (a full chromatic set plus 4 doubles) 5 BackPak harmonicas and 3 Silvertones. All with very very little use. All work, and are in tune. $99.00 plus shipping takes the lot. These are all from the first batch that were made in the 80's. Contact me off list for complete details if interested. pt@ptgazell.com ---------- "Life...10 Holes & 20 Reeds At A Time"
