In a week or so I will be flying into Atlanta (from London, England) with some friends and driving to New Orleans. I can't wait! I was there before, exactly one year before Katrina, and loved the place.

What would you all say are some 'must dos' (musical or otherwise) while we will be there? Favourite bars and such like? Ideally, we would like to avoid the purely touristy stuff; although a little is always fun I guess... We will have a car, and so can get around and out of town etc.

Thanks and All the Best,

Oliver.

1) Pascal's Manale - BBQ shrimp - a must!
also good for oysters and Italian.
2) Brennans for brunch.

If the 'Old Abysinthe Bar' is still around, it's a good blues bar.

N.O. is one of my faves. Wouldn't go without hitting 1 and 2 above.
Take the streetcar to Pascal's.

Enjoy.

Since you're "goin' down to Lou-si-anna" you have to "buy you a mojo hand."

Here's where to go:

VooDoo Authentica
612 Rue Dumaine

It's in the Quarter. Go in and ask to have them make you up a Gris-Gris or Mojo. Tell them what you want it to do for you.
I had one made for creativity, stage presence and sexual irresistability. I was already a stud, but now I'm a mega-stud. Believe me, it works gangbusters for me on all fronts. I don't go if I don't got my Mojo!

Have fun!

There is an open air market past Cafe DuMonde, and a harp player named Smokey Greenwall has a table there where he sells harps and old concert posters. He might be worthwhile to stop and chat with.

Pascal's also has good Italian. The place is a standard in New Orleans. The kind of restaurant that has signed pics of H. Bogart, F. Sinatra, M. Monroe, etc on the wall. Go for a drink and a gander if nothing else. And its a cool streetcar ride to get there too.

But in any event... enjoy New Orleans!
