I haven't managed to overblow in any way at all--but--what is U-blocking? Is there an example of it I could find that would let me know how it sounds??

U-blocking, or tongue curling, is the somewhat inaccurate way of describing the method of playing whereby the player rolls his/her tongue and pushes it against the comb/ under the harp in order to play single notes. As the ability to curl one's tongue is genetically inherited and therefore some people simply can;t use this technique.

Personally, I find it much more effective for playing single notes as I feel it gets a better seal on the harp, allows you to naturally place the harp further inside the mouth (for better tone), and also allows you to do a few other tongue slapping things that are quite hard to explain!
However - the one problem with this technique I find is that I haven't yet found a way to play an overblown note using the technique - and its hard to 'jump' in and out of lip pursing and u-blocking. As far as I know - there are u-block players who do overblow, i was wondering how on earth they do it!

Previously I had never tried U-blocking to do overblows, but I just tried it and it worked.

Usual I play overblows lip pursed.

I must admit that when U-blocking I can't control the overblow as well as usual, but it can indeed be done.

Yeah, I U-block and I can get most overblows with a well gapped harp, overdraws I struggle with though.

Really? I find overdraws easier with u-blocking, not that I'm any good at them, but can't overblow. Perhaps you're my arch enemy...
