Ok, first of all I'm not looking for tabs and I don't want any.
I have been trying to figure this out on my own but not sure how to go about it. I basically love SRV's rendition of Little Wing and wish to give it a go on the harp.
What I am aware of is that this song has a few key changes but I have no idea what they are or how the progression goes for that matter.
Instinctively I found that an Ab harp seems to do an OK job but I would like further ideas and details about what harp keys/positions at which parts of the song.
I would preferably only like to play in 2nd pos and maybe 3rd pos for now as I'm still working on playing beyond outside 2nd pos playing. But I really believe I can at least give this song a go if I knew what the keys and chord changes actually are in relation to blues harp!
I really love the song when it's played by Stevie (please don't hate me, I love Hendrix too for his other stuff). I generally listen to it when I feel frustrated and need encouragement about my journey in playing music. That's what it truly means to me. I really feel this song and I want to play it so bad...
And you'd better believe I am one very frustrated S.O.B....
Someone please help me! I can't do it all by myself!

You need to use 11th position. That's Bb on a C harp or in the case of little wing G on an A harp.
There is a version of me playing it somewhere on the net. I no longer have a copy.
I think I've said this before 2nd position is really on useful for Blues, some country and some Irish tune. So if it's not one of those styles of music you might what to think about other position outside of 2nd or even 3rd.
11th works perfectly in the case of Little Wing.
There is a series of youtubes that I made that talk about playing in 11th. It's not difficult at all so don't get wrapped up in thinking a larger position number equals difficulty.
You can get away with playing a lot of 3rd position licks over 11th. Why is that? Well if you look at the Bbmaj7 arpeggio it's Bb D F A 1st inversion would be D F A Bb
The Dm arpeggio is DFA ..hmmmmmm that's the same as a rootless Bbmaj7!!
if you can't play OBs you can still use this position to great effect. Why is that? In advanced improv it's considered "square" to play root notes. That's the bassist's job so why do his work?
Playing the 9th (C)and 11th (Eb) notes will give you a fuller and more jazzy sound. One of the things I do with my students is to force them to play without using root notes.
It's a good exercise, even in blues... try it by NEVER playing a G (d2 b6 b9)) if playing in 2nd position.

Here's where you can find a handy little chart that lists all the harp positions:

@_@
I am truly humbled.
Thank you guys for pointing me out on how to go about this. You guys have given me a lot of peace of mind. And a lot to digest... Thank you.
Chris, I've always enjoyed your videos on Youtube. I have ESPECIALLY benefited from your videos about harp maintenance and mods in general. You and David Payne are my heroes when it comes to those kind of tutorials. I live in a place where there is no such thing as a harp tech and even harps are hard to come by. Making the best with what I got with my own hands is the only option I have and you guys have helped me so much with that. Thank you again.
And then your playing ability... I'd be lying if I didn't say I was impressed and even intimidated! You've made it very clear that you're one of a kind and not just a blues harp blower... but really maintain the spirit of being a virtuoso. Thank you for sharing your data.

This is an interesting topic, because I'm working on learning the beautiful Jimi Hendrix/Stevie Ray Vaughn intro to the song on guitar. I'm pretty sure the recordings are in E flat as both Jimi and SRV tuned down a half step. That would mean using an F harp to play along with the recordings in 11th position, an F sharp harp (which I don't have) to play along to regular tuning. Haven't tried it yet, so I could be wrong....

I thought it was cool that Yonnet had his own take on the song.
Though I wish he'd stop acting like he's having a seizure while he's playing... *rolls eyes*
I wonder how much he has to concentrate on both his playing and "tone enhancing" dance moves. ;p

I though his seizures were pretty cool for the most part, though he did go a little overboard a time or two.

I might start playing like that--out in the woods--looks like a great aerobic work-out. Might flatten out my gut!

GOOD ONE GENE! HAAHHAHAHAHAH!
*wipes his tears*
It's true what people say about musicians and comedians sharing a lot in common isn't it? :)
All I know is that both know how to make ME happy and beaming with a smile... during good times and bad times.
I honestly didn't expect you guys to be THAT funny. :D
