I am kinda new to harmonica. I played a very little (crappy) years ago. I know how to bend notes on the draw but other than that, I am a beginner. I was wondering if anyone has downloaded Adam's YouTube MP3's? If so, how hard is it to understand the lessons without the video? I was also thinking about getting the Basic Blues Harmonica book from Harmonica Masterclass. Has anyone had any experience with that or any other method useful to a beginner? Thanks, -Ryan

Hello,
I don't know about the book--but I have bought the MP3 collections up through about lesson 100--I'm getting due to update them.
I have my ipod connected to one of those things that puts the signal through your car radio--so I can drive and listen to the lessons at the same time. I drive a lot. These MP3's are a great way to make idle driving and heavy traffic productive time--I've learned a lot. They are not at all hard to understand without the video. I highly recommend them. . .
If you want to just try a couple of favorite lessons--copy the address of the lesson you want to make into an MP3 and go to http://www.youtubehack.net/ there, you can make your own MP3--then download it. It takes a while--much more convenient to just buy the ten-packs Adam sells. . .

I don't have any experience with the MP-3's but I do have several of David Barrett's Masterclass series which I found helpful to me. The series contains a lot of drill and insight in playing the blues but I will say it is for those willing to put in the time and work through the drills and "build their chops" I usually start my practice sessions with a half hour or so of Masterclass then when my mind starts to wander switch to Adams lessons or jam tracks and eventually just jam with something and have fun.
Hope this helps.

The YouTube Hack works with MS IE7.
Doesn't work with FireFox 3.0.3.

Old Wailer,
Unfortunately, my Firefox wouldn't work with the YT Hack.
It appeared to be trying to convert, but after an hour, it had not completed.
Tried it with IE7, and it worked OK.
Wonder if there is a FF plug-in I am missing?
Sure is nice for listening to the lessons in the car.

Hi Jamie.
You know, you might be right--I haven't tried YT hack for a while--and I have upgraded to the latest Firefox recently--I know there are some plug-ins I used to use that no longer work--might need to upgrade that stuff too--anyway--it used to work.
The best way I've found to get the lessons into my Ipod is to just buy the ten-packs from Adam's store--no hassle at all--just pull them into itunes and update the ipod. . .
I only use hack when I don't have a lesson yet and I really want to get it. I'm way overdue to update my ten-packs.

Kiwi--
I've used the Homespun Master Class books as well as Adam’s mp3s and other tutorials. The books give good, tangible examples of harp method and mechanics. If they’re the one's with a cd provided even better. I've driven many miles with the Butterfield Master Class cd playing, and I often only listen, trying to figure out the notes he's playing. I find it greatly helps my key recognition. And It’s always fun to listen to Mr. Butterfield himself explain his methods and approach to the harp.
I've also found Adam's work very helpful, especially the focus he gives to good, strong tone and inflection. He also breaks down many helpful riffs and bending methods.
Every tutorial and book is different just as each individual harp player constructs their own sound and style. I think the bottom line is to use a little of both. A broad collection of learning methods will make you the great harp player you can be.

Hi there, it feels like instead of trying to get the tracks for free you could support Adam's huge work instead.Tthe entire bundle costs only 30 USD or 5 USD for a set . Sometimes it feels good to pay for stuff, especially for guys like Adam .
