I just downloaded the new slim harpo lesson "I've got love if you want it" and I'm having a great time working through it. I love the timing/groove of the cut that the lesson is based on. If any more experienced players know of recordings that have very similar timing/groove, I would really appreciate any direction you could give. I think Adam called it "Louisiana Bayou Groove". Very unique and fun to play. I'm looking to develop more impovisational ideas based on the groove.

If you've got the song down (even if you don't) get Slim Harpo's "greatest hits". They are basically all in the same groove and fun to play along with.
The first time when I listened to this album, I was kind of disappointed because all the of the songs sort of sound the same, but when you get the feel for it and can play along, it becomes actually a great jam album.

I love Slim Harpo's playing.

Gotta appreciate what he represents amongst all the harp pros of the past and present. To me, he's the epitome of "less is more" and playing with pure "feel". He is all about playing with "negative space" or "silence" basically. Plenty of room for the listener to sit back and enjoy. I also find that when I'm drinking and getting pretty inebriated, his playing sounds a lot more enjoyable compared to my usual fast-paced and high energy favorites during my more sober daily life.

I learned a lot from listening to his cuts. I for one am someone who has a tendency to overplay in terms of speed and number of notes.

Getting into his style and really understanding it is a great way to get some kind of balance if you're also someone with a bit too much energy and too much to say...

Also, there's definately some kind of sex appeal in his playing style... something which I feel that most harp players don't exude.

An interesting observation I've made is every now and then when I have friends over I play a few different tracks from different harp players and one thing that I've noticed that's consistent is that the ladies LOVE Slim Harpo's cheeky and laid back style/approach.
