I would really love a lesson on how to play 'St. James Infirmary' in the style of Nat Riddles as he plays it at the end of the great album Adam put together.
I enjoy this track a lot, and can play the basic mellody but it would be great to have some of the wonderful flourishs and touches that Nat adds to the song, he plays it so good.
Would this be something you might consider Adam? Would anyone else be keen on such a lesson?
All the Best,
Oliver.

I've been tempted to request a lesson, but I refrained because I feel that it would not be in Adam's best interest to grant such a request. If he granted one, he would be asked for another...and another, and another, and a thousand more... (Mine would be "Roadhouse Blues" by The Doors.)
I would also like to make a general request: Most of the stuff from Adam is...uhm..."happy" blues, I guess...Lively, bouncy, dancy...I'd like to get some mournful, gritty, gut-wrenching stuff. If he has some stuff like that, I haven't gotten to it, yet.

I'm pretty sure I've read (somewhere around here) Adam welcoming lesson requests, else I wouldn't have made one. In any case I dont see why it would "be against his best interests".
Also who better than adam to talk about this particular song as played by Nat?

i think i remember hi asking for our input, too. it's not like adam is going to say, "no way, gene." or "what a horrible request, oliver."
adam might need us for inspiration or an idea where we want to go.

Hey Gene--
"Most of the stuff from Adam is...uhm..."happy" blues, I guess...Lively, bouncy, dancy...I'd like to get some mournful, gritty, gut-wrenching stuff. If he has some stuff like that, I haven't gotten to it, yet".
Check out lesson 24 real close. There is also a tab for it in the store I think--(by somebody else)--one of my all time favorite lessons.
I would love to see St. James in lesson form too--preferably a lesson in the store so it could be a tab and longer treatment than the YT lessons. . .
I think it's totally valid to request lessons--and I also would understand if it gets ignored. Can't hurt to ask. . .

Oh yes, when I made the request I of course intended it as a lesson in the store as it is something I would happily pay for!

It's good to hear that Adam does welcome requests! (So, why does he not have half a million lessons?) :)
When I referred to his "best interests", I was thinking in terms of him being swamped with so many requests that he couldn't really do anything with them without getting a headache over it. "Which ones do I do? What is it that the majority of the folks want? Which ones do I do that are representative of a bunch of others?, etc."
Lesson 24! YEAH! THAT'S THE STUFF! Thanks! I'd like to see stuff like that in the kind of lessons that are in The Store, and with more than just 12 bars.
In that lesson #24, he addressed a question I had about keeping time to a slow beat. He gave the same answer we came up with: Practice with a metronome.
BTW: As per the request I was tempted to make (Roadhouse Blues), I was thinking in terms of a paid lesson, too.

I have a three MP3 files of lesson 24--there are 3 places where Adam does a slow blues solo. What I did was copy the solos--then daisy-chain them together so that you get about five times through each one. It works great for me to jam along with. I've been doing this for over a year--and I still learn every time through.
I would be happy to make these files available if they could help others--for no charge--but I think I'd better see if Adam is OK with that first--it is his work, after all.
They are not high quality--but they do help me learn. . .

I actually have some amazing tapes of Nat sitting around his apartment playing the same song. I made them years ago. I'm going to digitize them and do something with them.
I don't really play the song, so it's not my lesson to give. But thanks for the request. I march to my own drummer, as you've figured out, but I'm always open to requests, even if I'm unable to honor most of them in the near future.
Gene: you're absolutely right on principle. My basic sense of fairness means that I can't promise anything to one person, since that might mean I'd need to extend myself in impossible ways. But I certainly don't mind people bringing interesting stuff to my attention. I've learned a heck of a lot from the folks who do that. So suggest away. Just be prepared for the fact that I 1) don't like Al Wilson; 2) don't do Doors songs, although I don't change the channel when they come on the radio; and 3) never want to feel like a slave to the harmonica--including stuff I'm "supposed" to do.
Right now I'm working on tabbing out "Pack Fair and Square" by Magic Dick, "Tequila" by the Champs, and my own solos from "Big Boss Man" on the streets of Helena, recently. I'm also working on a lesson about the three or four different 8-bar blues progressions.
I have two more YouTube videos in the can: one is about cotton harvesting time in Mississippi; I just spent a bit of time in a local cottonfield this morning. The other is...a slow blues on an F harp.
I don't particularly like minor key blues. But you're right: I haven't done many bitterly sad blues. Butterfield's "Driftin Blues" falls into that category.

"I'm also working on a lesson about the three or four different 8-bar blues progressions."
That's a great idea, and one that could be expanded upon. There are several 12 bar blues progressions, a few 8 bar blues progressions and if I'm not mistaken, there are some 16 bar progressions. (?)
This makes it seem that jamming with a band you don't know and to a song you don't know could be risky. Is there a way to give a lesson on this matter?
HEY!!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE DOORS??!! :) The Doors would be difficult to jam to because Ray and Robbie fill all the gaps pretty well on the vast majority of their songs, not leaving much room for enhancement. But there is the one song I mentioned that John Sebastion (under an alias) played harp with.
In case you're curious, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCapv8UcrcY Even in this song, they did not leave room for the harp player to really take off. Heck, they could have. He was right there in the studio. He did accompany very nicely, though.
BTW: I'd bet Willie Dixon is right up your alley.

I am pumped about Tequila and "The other is...a slow blues on an F harp." I like the blues the best but the guys i play with get bored quickly with the 12 Bar blues songs they don't know. Of the ones i suggest they all enjoy Rock around the clock, Easy, and I feel good. I wish i could play the solo on Long Train Running by the Doobie Brothers. I cannot figure out what is holding me up on it.
Oh yeah they are going to love "Tell Me What I What Say" when i get it up to speed.
EDIT Ziharmo Just added Long Train Running with tabs on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0glgxhWnlkE Yes!!!!!! ---------- Down the road I got to go

I didn't want to start a new thread just for this, so I put it in here since Roadhouse Blues was mentioned.
