I've noticed after watching a ton of Adam's videos that my harp sounds different than his does, even for single notes or 2 hole draws.

I'm not exactly sure how to explain it but its sort of "fatter, thicker, more distorted, and DEFINITELY more bluesy"

My harp on the other hand sounds really... clean i guess you could say. It doesnt really have the rhaspy blues tone to it.

Is there anything that can be done to get this beautiful sound? Am i using the wrong harp (marine band special 20)?

CBlue85 I have been playing for a year and a half and my tone is getting closer to where I want it. Other than lots of practice the best thing i could suggest is Adam's tone clinic.
It is five bucks for about 40 minutes. He uses an A and C harps on it. Here is the link:

Drop and push out your jaw when you play, it creates a far bigger resonant chamber in your mouth and opens up the throat so that your windpipe becomes part of that soundbox too. Cup your harp very tightly and make as airtight a seal around it as you can (I press the holes that I'm not playing into my cheek to close 'em up). With a tight seal in place, your harp, mouth and throat are ALL part of the same resonating space; breath from the diaphragm and your tone will be fuller and richer. Same principals as singing really.

One thing that Adam does that makes a huge difference is that Adam replicates a tongue-block sound very well. He constantly lets chords sneak in and applies fake tounge-slaps. He'll often let the 4 hole breathe in when he's playing the blue-third, or the 5 hole breathe in when he plays the 4 draw. Watch his Harlem riff videos and see the TB effects he replicates in that video.

there are certain harps with covers that make slightly different sounds, (like slits in the covers that leek a little bit more noise than others)im not sure about special 20's. but my "Hohner Blues Harp" i believe sound much different than Adams marine band. it could be your tone though. Just keep practicing.
