I know it's a bit late now but here's a good tip for next years Halloween.

An old chromatic harp with the slide removed makes some great "spooky" sounds to scare trick or treaters with.
I discovered this by accident when one of my kids picked up an old broken Educator II harp I had in a drawer the other day. When the Trick or treaters knocked on the door on friday night my eldest slowly opened the letter box and started blowing and sucking some excellent dischord sounds. Scared the Cr*p out of a few them.

Try it and you'll see what I mean. Works on your wife too if you sneak up behind her although it hurts when she wacks you round the head with it. Worth it though to see her jump.

I don't need props and I don't need a costume.
I was at my sister's house one Halloween. I didn't go with any intention of participating. I didn't have a costume or anything. But I got into the spirit. (No pun intended :) )

She has a glass door, mostly frosted but with some clear patches in it. When kids came to the door, my sister would bring them candy. I was on my hands and knees reaching through the partially opened door as if trying to grab hold of the kids. My sister would tell me to get back while keeping me from forcing the door open...Kinda like trying to keep a dog back. :0

This really scared some of the kids. Later, I heard some kids talking, "Is this the house?" "Yeah, this is the one." Two older girls, I guess in their early teens were reluctant to come up to the door. They really looked nervous. They really did! One of them quietly said, "I don't know if I want to go up there." I was enjoying this. I made this the spookiest house on the block. :D

I wanted to get some idea of what this looked like from outside, so I stepped outside and asked my son to do what I was doing. Remember those clear patches in the glass door I mentioned? The door concealed nothing. What the kids were seeing was ME as I actually am!! Humiliating. :(

also if you don't want to take the slide out of your chromatic harp, pressing it halfway works as well

Yes but you don't want your wife to hit you with a good harp now do you? It might get damaged!
