I understand the historical importance of the "first black president" thing. It's monumental. But emotionally, I don't even bat an eye. I'm beyond that. Black, white, green or transparent...Whatever. (I just thank God a ukelele player didn't get elected. :D )
Also, I don't think it matters who gets the job. These days, you could put McCain in the oval office or you could put Obama in there...Or you could put Thomas Jefferson or The Three Stooges in there. It makes no difference, anymore.
A president used to be a president. Then the job got downgraded to "puppet." Now, a president is not even a puppet; he's just a figure head. The central banks and corporations are the true rulers...RULERS.
Many people here in the U.S. have known for a long time that this is no longer a democratic republic. It's a plutocracy, and congress has finally PROVEN that OPENLY by voting for the bail-out against the wishes of the great majority of the American people.
I didn't vote. There's no point to it. I saved gas by not voting.
(Edit): Oh, great :( ...Harmonicanick deleted his post. Now it looks like I started this thread. :D

quote "I am upset about the attitude of you harp players in the US ............are you rednecks or is this a momentous moment we think it is....change is gonna come...or are you finished!!!!"
I might be considered a redneck being from the Mississippi delta. I did not vote for Obama, but he is my President and I support him.
You watch too much of the media. Don't believe for a second that the "news media" you see on TV reflects the United States. It does not.
By the way, your remark comes across as very offensive though I feel sure you did not mean it to.
I'm not on this forum to even discuss politics, but your statement did give me the "blues".

Just another UK perspective.
Part of me thinks how wonderful it is to see the work of the civil rights activists finally come to this point; where a black American man has risen to the very top. How many of those ageing activists actually believed that this would happen in their own lifetimes?
However, the cynical, conspiracy theorist in me says that noone becomes President without being somebody's bitch. Did anyone really truly believe that George Jr was the one making the decisions? That Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and Cheney weren't behind pulling the strings? and that behind them weren't more equally powerful and yet more frighteningly anonymous men in suits? Democrat or Republican it really makes little difference - to become President you have to have some VERY rich and powerful friends.
I'm trying to not get too excited until I see changes and not speeches.

I agree in part with you gene, but I thought it was important to see him elected on two thoughts of mine.
1. It is about time someone other than a middle aged white man was elected presidented (I am a middle aged white man...).
2. I hope the rest of the world was sent a message that the majority of the population of the US is tired of our govt. embracing a foreign policy of military intervention that does not represent the will of the people.
Sorry I know this isn't a political forum, but maybe someone can come up with some lyrics for some good blues songs from these two points.

Not the forum to discuss politics but on such a momentious victory I think America is to be applauded. Some comments are cynical but I guess we all really have to wait and see. On my visits to the US I have always been highly impressed by your country and your people however not with your very divisive leader. A new strong compassionate leader who will unite & take you in a different direction is long overdue. I think the whole world must welcome this change.

Having a non-white person with a name that's exotic to us here in the U.S. will be instrumental in acclamating us to a more globalist feeling.
I'm not one of those people who "see black helicopters in the sky." I'm one of those people who see a sky that's black with those helicopters.

Especially for Harmonicanick
What the Hell? I guess unmoderated means the rest of you have don't have the sense to engage with a "Limey" on an irrelevent debate. I thought this forum was something about the Harmonica, not politics. I am a registered member from Georgia, so I don't feel like starting another WAR here. There are plenty of Redneck's here, and I may be considered to be one of them at times. Especially when insulted by a citizen of yet another country that has had his ass handed to him in his F'in hat. So Piss Off Mate. Your Queen is a man--But then, aren't they all?
