I have Suzuki Promasters. I'm assuming they use Paddy Richter tuning. (Am I right?) I have a chromatic tuner program that lets you select from dozens of tunings, but Richter (or Paddy Richter) is not one of the options. Nor is Just. I have the tuner set for Equal Temperament.
On the 1 hole and the 4 hole, I cannot bend a 1/2 step down according to the tuner. I'm about 25 or 30 cents sharp. (I get much closer on the lower-pitched keys.) However, the straight draws are just about spot on.
Because of differences in Equal and Richter tunings, am I closer than I think? If not, can diatonics not bend the full 1/2 step, or do I have to work on my technique? (Heck, I've tried everything...)

Gene, download the free trial of the Bendometer from www://harpsoft.com and use this to check how your bends are going. I can tell you it takes time and much frustration to be able to hit bends correctly.

Thanks. I just downloaded the Bendometer. I was surprised to see that the highlight moves across the notes relative to the pitch, rather than simply choosing which note I'm closest to and locking on that. That makes the bendometer more useful than I thought it was.
For my purposes, my tuner (with Equal Temperament tuning) is as good as the Bendometer (with Richter tuning). I can't tell enough difference in their tunings to justify paying for the Bendometer. I'm not interested in it's other features.
So, part of my question is answered: The different tunings are close enough for my purposes. That leaves the other part: Will the 1 and 4 holes draw down a complete 1/2 step? If so, I've got some work to do...
(Some info I don't really care to have: My dog howls around F#.) :(

Gene, I think you are a little confused about different tunings, promasters come as standard in richter tunning.
Paddy ritcher tuning is a tunning that was created (possibly by by Brendan Power) where the 3 Hole blow is raised by a tone. There is more information on Brendan's website about various tunnings.

One very simple way to check if you're bending well is using harmonicas in different keys. For instance, blow on the hole 4 on a A harp and try to get the same sound from the 3 hole draw on a C harp to check how good is your whole step bending.
