Looking to get my hands on my first Mic and Amp.
I'm not much more then an overzealous beginner but
I also don't want to have to be buying an upgrade any time soon and as in soon I mean never.

If you want a bullet mic get one from a guy who really knows how to make them... Dennis Gruenling, Mr Microphone.

Otherwise I prefer the EV re-10 you can find them used on ebay or get one from Mr Microphone

For an amp go with the Meteor or harp gear amps. Nothing else compares except for some of the old fender units.

I don't like old gear but that me...then again I'm not a blues player at all.

My rig is a 1400w bass amp. :->

I agree with Chris on Microphones, Dennis will give you a great mic well worth the money, I also have my eye on a new wooden mic that Jimi Lee is using from blowsmeaway productions. Google the name and check out the website. As far as HarpGear goes, definately go for it. No matter what the cost I don't think there is anything out there that works better for harmonica tone. I own the double trouble and once the tubes are heated up, and with the right cupping technique- *which I learned from the creator of the amp himself, Thanks Brian!* the sound quality is unmatched. I get compliments all the time on it from guitar players o' plenty! Best of luck.

Soul Pressure,

I don't think you can go wrong with a Harp Gear 2. It's small and portable but has a line out which gives you as much volume as you need. I almost always use the line out when I play so that I can hear myself in the PA monitors. Some mics that I have that I think sound good with the HG2 include a shure 545 (vintage), a shure 575S (great little known mic that can often be bought for less than $20), an Astatic "biscuit" mic, and the "Cherub" finger mic.

I think it depends on what you wanta do & the $ you're lookin to spend. I've been playin 4 a while, but have been playin amped 4 less than a year. I started w/ a small Pignose and a WalMart mic, which believe it or not sounded good. Then I got a Hohner Blues Blaster Mic which I love. I was limited w/ the Pignose so I got Roland Cube. It gives enough adjustments for me to get a variety of sounds including a tube amp sound. My amped playing has gotten to the point where it doesn't deliver anymore, so I am at the point of upgrading. I play for personal enjoyment so I'm only willing to spend so much. Anyway, I have a Blues Blaster and I think it's a great mic, but it's the only mic I've used so I have nothing to compare it to. I think a good tube amp is what's best. I also think gear is like a players skill, as you get better so should it. I can play good accoustic, but I had to learn how to play w/ a mic to get the proper sounds. I think no matter what you get, sooner or later you'll be lookin to get somethin else just to try it, and that's part of the fun. Anyway, I think the Blues Blaster is a good mic, and I would recommend a you get a good tube amp. I'm sure others know better than me, but that's my 2 cents.

About the mics. Try to search for sometihng on eBay. A musician, Ron Sunshine (eBay nick: Deluxe8765) sels a lot of great stuff. He makes a video test of every mic he sels. I've got an Astatic 10C from 1963 from him and I'm very happy with it. You won't be dissapointed! About an amp. I'm waiting for my Danelectro Honey Tone now, just to play at home or busk.
