I make good use of Google in my everyday life, and I've been trying to find some tabs for harmonica scales (blues, major, minor) I've found EXCELLENT examples at overblow.com -- but there aren't any tabs... I've recently picked up the instrument so I couldn't go about tabbing them myself... can someone please post tabs? (most important the blues scales in 1st,2nd,3rd)

thanks!!! keep on harpin

I cant remember the website. But i posted a link in this forum a few months ago. If you cant find it, then google music theory for harp. I'm pretty sure the website had richard somewhere in the title and had loads of scales in the 1st 5 positions

Hi Dillon,
I have no background in music in high school or college. I am self taught. My advice to you is to learn how the scales are built, and memorize where the notes are on the harp. This has helped me out tremendously (even though I only have the C harp memorized) with understanding music, and being able to move songs from position to position. It's definetely not something you HAVE to do to play harp, its just good stuff to know as you progress and want to take it to the next level. Congratulations on picking up the harp.

Blues Scale in Theory Terms:

Root, Flat Third, Fourth, Flat 5th, Fifth, Flat 7th, and Octave of Root.

Blues scale second position harp tab

-2, -3', +4, -4', -4, -5, +6

First position, middle of harp
+4, 4overblow, -5, 5overblow, +6, 6overblow, +7

Third position middle of harp

-4, -5, +6, -6', -6, +7, -8

There are more blues scales on the harp, in these positions, I'm just tired of typing.

Try www.tenhole.com as well.

As it happens, I recently finished tabbing out the major and blues scales for all 12 harp positions and passed this on to Adam for release from this site. So stay tuned. It was a very educational process for me and I reveal the method. The circle of fifths is indeed the key to it all for those inclined to do it for themselves.

Adam has posted the PDF here (free download). Enjoy.

On the subject of reading standard music music, I failed to mention this to those who follow my advice but are having problems. This is especially directed to those of you who already play. Learning to read can be comparable to backtracking to search for something that you misplaced or dropped. You should learn things pretty quickly. As for the difficult parts, keep working at it, but in the meantime, use sheet music as a map to navigate through some material. The better you can read the map, the better you can navigate.

Hey there, I found this thread by using the search!

I agree with Dillon... can someone provide some tablature for the scales? I've looked at the links provided and none had the scales plainly listed out with name/notes (Tabs)

PLEASE SOMEONE POST THEM! PLEASE!
